This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 11/21/12

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #698 *DYING WISH CHAPTER 1* -- The first chapter in the biggest Spider-Man Story In History Begins this Wednesday, as the Road to SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN begins!
A Great Jumping On Point for New Readers!

Folks, we've been singing praise upon Dan Slott's stellar run on AMAZING SPIDER-MAN since he first began with BIG TIME a few years ago. It's been a long, crazy ride, and while there's been better arcs than others, for the most part, the entire run has been an incredible read. Slott has put in a ton of hard work at rebuilding the world and mythos of Spidey, and in the process, has given us one of the most consistently entertaining and compelling Marvel monthlies on the racks.

When we first heard the rumblings about Spidey getting the Marvel NOW treatment, and the series ending with issue #700, to relaunch as SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN, we knew Slott had to have something big up his sleeve. We weren't sure what, but we knew it was big.

Well, folks, all I can say is this: you do not want to miss issue #698 of Amazing Spider-Man. I have made it my mission to keep my mouth shut, and avoid any spoilers regarding this series, because I want you guys to have the satisfaction of reading the issue cover to cover on Wednesday and having your minds blown.

Just trust me: it's worth it. :) This issue is, single-handedly, the biggest single issue of a superhero comic I've read in 2012, and yes, that includes some of the already epic stuff out there like the reveal in BATMAN #12, and the conclusion to Avengers vs. X-Men in issue #12. This is a major moment in Marvel history, and come Wednesday, everyone is going to be wanting this one!

What is DYING WISH? Well, what I can tell you is this, since Slott began his run, he's been weaving a ton of little subplots, one of which is the relationship between Doctor Octopus and Peter Parker. From the start, we've seen Doc Ock watching his physical body wither away, coming closer and closer to death, as he blames much of his downfall on Parker.

Now, we're going to see a final showdown between these two, which will rope in many iconic figures from Spider-Man's past, present, and future.

When the dust clears, the world of Spider-Man, and it's landscape, will be changed forever.

Folks, trust us: there has never been a better time than this issue to jump on board with ASM. The series is on it's way to issue #700, which will be the conclusion of DYING WISH, and the end of the series as we know it. From there, a new Spider-Man series will begin with a new Spider-Man, in the pages of Superior Spider-Man.
Wanna get on board? Snag yourself a copy of issue #698 this Wednesday, and read it before you read ANYTHING else. Trust us!

Get your WALKING DEAD fix just in time for Turkey Day!

Image Comics gives a little thanks this Thanksgiving Eve with the arrival of the 17th volume of the WALKING DEAD. I mean, I'll be honest: you couldn't ask for a better Turkey Day treat, right?

We know how edge of your seat you guys are when you're waiting for the next installment in Robert Kirkman's incredible zombie epic, and trust us, volume 17 maybe the most impressive arc yet, with the events of this summer's issue #100.

We also know that spoilers are everything when it comes to WALKING DEAD, so we'll just keep our mouths shut about what happens here. Lets face it, if you're 16 books in, you already know how great the series is, and there's no sense in us ruining any of the surprise, 'cause hey that's the best part, right? :)

Collecting issues #97-#102, volume 17 brings you up to date, and then for those of you looking to jump onto the single issues, we've got issues 103 & 104 in stock now, whichare the first two issue to follow after the trade.

JUDGE DREDD #1 featuring a special THIRD EYE exclusive cover of DREDD raiding THIRD EYE COMICS!
Join us on Saturday 11/24 for our Small Business Saturday DREDD Release Party featuring writer DUANE SWIERCZYNSKI
How can you not love JUDGE DREDD? I mean, beyond the fact that the movie that hit this past Fall was pretty kick-ass (seriously, what a great job they did with it!), the world of JUDGE DREDD is the epitome of what makes UK comics so damn cool, and we love every second of it.

Now, the fine folks at IDW, who've been responsible for bringing us revitalized and recharged takes on characters like TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, THE TRANSFORMERS, THE CROW, GI JOE, and more, has gotten their hands on DREDD, and are launching a brand new ongoing Judge Dredd series.

And, folks, it's freakin' great. This is seriously a special book. IDW manages to capture the dystopia, the grime, the grit, the bleakness, and the slight satire of the original JUDGE DREDD series that featured work from Garth Ennis and more, and channel it into a slick, modern package.

The end result is probably the best spin on Judge Dredd that we've seen in a very, very long time.

What can you expect from it? Check it out: in the 22nd century, crime runs rampant in Mega-City One, home to over 400 million citizens, robos, criminals, and lunatics. The only line of defense between anarchy and chaos are the Judges. And Judge Dredd is the toughest of them all. This brand new, ultra-violent, monthly ongoing series captures the fantastic grim and gritty sci-fi crime drama awesomeness of Judge Dredd perfectly.

On top of all that, we've worked in collaboration with IDW to do a very special Third Eye cover of JUDGE DREDD #1 that will be available at $3.99 cover price in our stores this Wednesday. It's a pretty bad-ass cover too, featuring Dredd kicking open the door of Third Eye Comics, and raiding us. Hey, who said comics would still be legal in the future? :)

Meet JUDGE DREDD writer DUANE SWIERCZYNSKI this Saturday at Third Eye & get your JUDGE DREDD #1 signed at our SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY event!
As a continuation of our Black Friday craziness, we're also going to be taking part in SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY this year, and we're pretty amped about our huge release party signing for JUDGE DREDD #1 with series writer DUANE SWIERCZYNSKI. Duane will be in-store this Saturday from 11AM-1PM signing copies of DREDD #1, as well as his other works like CABLE, BLOODSHOT, IMMORTAL IRON FIST, and BIRDS OF PREY!

CATWOMAN #14 *DEATH OF THE FAMILY TIE-IN* -- THE DEATH OF THE FAMILY MADNESS CONTINUES IN THIS WEDNESDAY' CATWOMAN #14
The DEATH OF THE FAMILY story arc has been, by far, one of the most impressive, and compelling BATMAN stories we've seen in many, many years. I mean, heck, we thought last year's COURT OF OWLS / NIGHT OF OWLS was intense, but Snyder & Capullo are topping themselves in a major way with DEATH OF THE FAMILY.

After reading last week's BATMAN, we're on the edges of our seats waiting for more DEATH OF THE FAMILY, so we were pretty stoked to see a triple-shot of it hitting this week with CATWOMAN #14, NIGHTWING #14, and RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #14.

In CATWOMAN #14, following up on the events of last month's CATWOMAN #13, we find Catwoman caught in the Joker's trap as he toys with her mind. Of course, she's not going down without a fight, but when you're playing mind games with the insane, what chance does Selina Kyle have?

Another fantastic addition to the DEATH OF THE FAMILY line-up, make sure you snag yourself a copy this Wednesday.

Need the other installments of DEATH OF THE FAMILY? We've currently got all chapters in stock and available now to get you caught up, including last month's CATWOMAN #13.

MARVEL NOW: CAPTAIN AMERICA #1 -- UNCANNY X-FORCE WRITER RICK REMENDER & KICK-ASS ARTIST JOHN ROMITA JR GIVE US THE MOST KILLER CAPTAIN AMERICA MONTHLY EVER WITH THE NEW ONGOING CAPTAIN AMERICA SERIES!
CAN YOU SAY: STEVE ROGERS: WARLORD OF MARS?

You know, there's only been a few Captain America runs that have really stood out to us as being classic must-read material over the few years. The thing is, we love the character, Captain America, but it's just so hard to find those good runs. My own personal favorites like Mark Waid & Ron Garney's now-classic run, and of course, the more recent and definitively iconic ED BRUBAKER run that gave us WINTER SOLDIERS are definitely a couple of the bright shining lights in the character's history.

Well, time to welcome another contender to the throne of iconic Cap runs with Rick Remender and John Romita JR's upcoming Marvel NOW relaunch of CAPTAIN AMERICA.

This, folks, may be the coolest take on the Super-Soldier yet. Now, before you read on, hear me out: this is going to sound a little weird at first -- but trust us, IT KICKS ASS.

So, in the aftermath of AvX, Cap finds himself stranded on an alien planet far away from home. An inhospitable, post-apocalyptic kinda of planet that is ravaged by war, and has no idea what Truth, Justice, and the American Way are all about.

And, Cap, being the patriot he is, is going to bring the ideals of America to a planet where there's no America.

A high-adventure, fresh as hell, tough as nails, pulpy sci-fi comic book masterpiece, Rick Remender is batting a thousand on this one, folks, and every single hit's a homerun. Romita's work hasn't looked this crisp, and high-energy since his work on the first KICK-ASS. Pair the two together, and you've got yourself one heck of a read.

If last week's Marvel NOW stand-out was Thor, then there's a very close race between this week's Cap #1 and Hulk #1 as the stand-out, since both are amazing.

CLONE #1 -- A BRAND NEW ONGOING MONTHLY SERIES FROM ROBERT KIRKMAN'S (WALKING DEAD) IMAGE COMICS IMPRINT SKYBOUND! IT LOOKS AMAZING! A FANTASTIC MODERN-DAY SCI-FI!
Whenever IMAGE Comics has something new cooking, we tend to pay close attention, and the arrival of this Wednesday's CLONE is something we're pretty darn excited for. As one of the titles to launch on Robert Kirkman's "Skybound" imprint, Clone is an incredibly bloody sci-fi thriller that grabs a hold of you and does not let go.

Dr Luke Taylor's perfect life comes to a dramatic halt when an identical, bloodied version of himself arrives at his doorstep with news that he is one of many clones and they're all after his pregnant wife and unborn child.

Featuring the insane, hyper-detailed art of JUAN JOSE RYP (BLACK SUMMER, NO HERO), Clone is a must-read new IMAGE series that looks to be another breakout hit for the publisher.

Snag yourself a copy this Wednesday, and find out why we're so jazzed about this new series!

NIGHTWING #14 *DEATH OF THE FAMILY TIE-IN* -- DEATH OF THE FAMILY continues in the pages of NIGHTWING this Wednesday

The DEATH OF THE FAMILY keeps on rolling in this week's NIGHTWING, and with the long distance between Bruce, Dick, and Barbara.. and of course, THE JOKER, it's going to be interesting to see how this all plays out.

This issue leads directly into DEATH OF THE FAMILY, and brings the second-in-command of the Bat-Family face to face with the Clown Prince of Crime himself.

MARVEL NOW: INDESTRUCTIBLE HULK #1 -- DAREDEVIL & IRREDEEMABLE Writer MARK WAID pairs up with SUPERIOR / SUPERCROOKS artist LEINIL YU to deliver the most bad-ass Hulk story since PLANET HULK!
Indestructible Hulk is right up there with the new Captain America as one of the Marvel NOW titles I'm most excited about. Why? It's MARK WAID, dude! Seriously, Waid has a knack for really bringing something fresh, and exciting to a character, and we cannot wait to see what he does with the Hulk.

I mean, one of my top 5 favorite Marvel titles for the last year now has been Waid's DAREDEVIL, so to say I'm eager to see his take on the Hulk is an understatement. Plus, you pair that up with the gorgeous artwork of Leinil Yu, and you've got yourself one heck of a killer read.

The concept behind this new spin on Hulk is pretty darn neat. Indestructible force more weapon than man -- that's the Hulk. Smartest man alive -- that's Bruce Banner. Combined they are the strongest, smartest weapon on the planet. And, now, the Indestructible Hulk is an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

That's right, SHIELD has harnessed the monster, or so they think, and are using him to take out the bigger-than-life messs that they can't handle on their own.

A rogue frost giant finds itself stuck here on Earth? Drop the Hulk from a helicarrier on it. A cosmic entity that can't be stopped finds itself getting a little too close to Earth? Strap the Hulk to a rocket, and launch him at it.

You get the jist? Basically, remember how in the AVENGERS film, the Hulk was kind of the go-to secret weapon to be unleashed and cause havoc on an armada of Skrull (or Chitauri ;) ) warships.

And, you know Waid is going to bring a very cool feel and twist to all of this.

Folks, we could be looking at the next best Hulk run in quite some time!

Dark Horse Comics unveils a post-apocalyptic masterpiece with NUMBER 13 #0 this Wednesday
In a post-apocalyptic wasteland populated by mutants and terrorized by flesh-eating ogres, a young amnesiac searches for the answers to the mystery of his identity. Wandering aimlessly, he comes to the rescue of Lorna, a young girl who gives him a name: Number 13. Facing danger at every turn, Number 13 fights to stay alive as his quest to find out who he is leads to the deadly truth of what he is.

We love a good post-apocalyptic yarn, and with Sweet Tooth concluding, this looks like a great series to fill the void it's going to leave behind. Fantastic writing, fantastic art, give this one a peek this Wednesday.

And, the final in the trio of DEATH OF THE FAMILY tie-ins this week is the newest issue of RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS. We all know Jason Todd's history with The Joker, so you can imagine the sparks that're gonna fly with the Clown Prince of Crime resurfacing in the Red Hood's sight.

STITCHED VOL.1 TRADE PAPERBACK ARRIVES FROM AVATAR PRESS THIS WEDNESDAY, COLLECTING THE FIRST 7 ISSUES OF GARTH ENNIS'S KILLER MUMMY HORROR SERIES!
FROM THE CREATORS OF CROSSED!

You guys know us -- we pretty much love everything Garth Ennis does, and his latest foray into the world of survival horror may be one of our favorite things by him yet. Stitched brings a fresh new face to the world of horror comic bad guys: the mummy!

Killer mummies with crazy machetes, hooked knives, and chain things crawling through the desert with a thirst for blood!

The story starts with three American soldiers, survivors of a helicopter crash in Afghanistan, struggling across the Taliban-controlled mountains. Injured and lacking food, water, and medicine, they discover something far worse than enemy fighters among the sun-bleached rocks: an ancient supernatural power, murderous and unstoppable.

Despite a timely rescue by a handful of British S.A.S commandos, they're still hopelessly outnumbered by the shambling, ragged undead and the evil human intelligence that controls them.

Stitched is a blast, and if you're a horror comics fanatic, this is something you gotta have in your life!

REVIVAL #5 -- ONE OF THE BEST NEW IMAGE SERIES OF 2012 CONTINUES! JOIN US ON 12/15 TO MEET SERIES CO-CREATOR & WRITER TIM SEELEY!
REVIVAL has us hooked. This beautiful rural noir with a horrific supernatural twist is one of the most compelling, and addicting comics on the stands right now. It definitely ranks up there with recent IMAGE hits like SAGA, BEDLAM, and more.

What's REVIVAL all about? For one day in rural central Wisconsin, the dead came back to life. Now it's up to Officer Dana Cypress to deal with the media scrutiny, religious zealots, and government quarantine that has come with them.

In a town where the living have to learn to deal with those who are supposed to be dead, Officer Cypress must solve a brutal murder, and everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect.

One of the best takes on the undead we've seen in comics since WALKING DEAD, REVIVAL is a smart, clever little horror comic that blends crime drama and the supernatural effortlessly.

Seriously, folks: we can't recommend this comic enough.

Wanna get on board? We've got issues 1-4 in stock now to catch you up to this Wednesday's #5.

MARVEL NOW: DEADPOOL #2 -- THE BEST DEADPOOL SERIES IN AGES CONTINUES WITH THIS WEDNESDAY'S DEADPOOL #2. ONE WORD: FIDDLESTICKS.
Dude, the new DEADPOOL series is so darn good, it's ridiculous. Many of you guys got to meet the super-cool writer behind this awesomeness with last weekend's DEADPOOL #1 Release Party with GERRY DUGGAN, so you already know: this book kicks ass.

For those of you who may not have yet picked up issue #1, you gotta trust us, Third Eye Faithful: you will LOVE this series. It's a blast, and really captures the humor of DEADPOOL perfectly.

So, what's it all about? Well, in a post-AvX world, the folks at SHIELD have to be a bit more careful about what they let the public see them, and of course, the Avengers, do.

So, when a legion of United States Presidents are resurrected from the dead as zombie-ghost things... well, it's not Captain America who's going to help them back into their final resting places. Nope, it's the Merc with a Mouth.

And, hot dammit, all I can say is when you have President Ford stumbling around shouting fiddlesticks... you know you've got a funny read.

Pair up Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn's hilarious storytelling and dialogue with the always stunning artwork of WALKING DEAD co-creator TONY MOORE, and you've got yourself a piece of comic book magic.

Folks, even if you're not the biggest DEADPOOL fan in the world, trust us: get this book. You'll love it.

Wanna get caught up? We've got copies of issue #1 in stock and available now to get you current with this week's issue #2.

PLUS: If you get issues 1 & 2 you can get them signed by writer BRIAN POSEHN on 12/22 at our very special A VERY DEADPOOL X-MAS event.

COMEBACK #1 FROM IMAGE COMICS DELIVERS A COMPELLING CRIME NOIR SCI-FI THRILLER FROM IMAGE COMICS

Here's a little mini-series from IMAGE that caught our eye with it's stunning cover design, and the cool premise behind the series.

Reconnect is more than a company -- it's an opportunity for good. Reconnect can reverse tragedy by sending agents into the past to rescue your mother, your wife, your brother, or father or child moments before their untimely death.

Mark is one of these agents. He brings the rescued from the past to the present, to a blessed reunion with their loved ones.

He saves lives..or does he?

We read some advance pages on this -- totally cool. Give it a shot this Wednesday!

MARVEL NOW: IRON MAN #2 -- JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY MAESTRO KIERON GILLEN IS GIVING US THE BEST DAMN IRON MAN COMIC SINCE FRACTION FIRST STARTED HIS INVINCIBLE RUN! INCREDIBLE STUFF!
You know, we're not normally big Iron Man fans. There's been some fantastic runs, that's for sure. Layton/Micheline, Fractiona/Larocca, and heck, even that Busiek/Chen run from the '90s was pretty damn cool.

But, I gotta say, Kieron Gillen and Greg Land are capturing the essence of what made Tony Stark so damn cool in the IRON MAN films. The brash wit, and bravado of Downey Jr's STARK is on full display here, as they tell a story that recaptures the big futurist sci-fi awesome of the character.

Now, Stark has had to downgrade to a more traditional suit of armor, as the living nano-armor inside of his own body has gone rogue. Extremis units are going haywire everywhere, and Iron Man must venture to New Camelot, to find them out.

Iron Man vs. Mech-Knights? How cool does that sound?

Seriously, give this one a shot, folks, You'll be impressed.

EDGAR ALLAN POE'S THE CONQUEROR WORM ONE-SHOT FROM HORROR COMICS MASTER RICHARD CORBEN (RAGEMOOR, DIN)
We are HUGE fans of horror comics legend RICHARD CORBEN, and last year, many of you got your first taste of this genius with his series RAGEMOOR.

So, we're even more pumped now, to give you guys another dose of NEW Corben material with this horrifying adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's classic, THE CONQUEROR WORM.

A betrayed man hunts down his wife and her lover only to stumble upon a gruesome puppet show based on his life.

Terrifying, awesome, and so much more. Corben rules.

MARVEL NOW: JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #1FEATURING SIF! This one looks pretty bad-ass!
Here's another MARVEL NOW that may slip by you this week due to Marvel deciding (for some unknown reason) to not re-number it.. so, we've decided to just re-number it ourselves, and call it issue #1. ;)

Seriously though: this is a fresh start, and a fresh arc for JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY, and is totally line with the tone of innovation and kick-ass storytelling that MARVEL NOW is delivering.

Casting SIF in the starring role, we're shown pretty quickly that Sif is a brutal warrior.

When the latest crop of beasties beset Asgard, it's business as usual for our sword-slingin' heroine as she leads the battle charge -- but that no-holds-barred zeal for glory may be the very thing that brings the realm down around her winged helm.

While Thor battles the God Butcher, Sif fights in the present to fend off the armies of monstrosities that he's brought.

LEGEND OF OZ: THE WICKED WEST VOL.1 ARRIVES IN TRADE PAPERBACK THIS WEDNESDAY, DELIVERING THE ORIGINAL STEAMPUNK DOROTHY AND OZ MINI-SERIES!

A few weeks ago, we spotlighted the brand new LEGEND OF OZ ongoing, which is a great little series to tide you over in between issues of steampunk favorite LADY MECHANIKA.

Now, we wanna give some props to the original mini-series that started it all, with the LEGEND OF OZ: THE WICKED WEST mini-series, available this Wednesday in a trade paperback collecting the entire mini-series.

Take a trip back over the rainbow to an Oz you never knew existed. Dorothy Gale slips on her ruby spurs after falling out of the sky and is sent off to follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City. The only problem? The road is gone. We've seen Oz itself destroyed and transformed into a wild west landscape, where flying monkeys and scarecrows still walk the plains of Oz, but in ways you could never have imagined.

A very cool read for fans of FABLES, GRIMM FAIRY TALES, and LADY MECHANIKA.

BLEEDING COOL MAGAZINE #1 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY DELIVERING THE FIRST REAL COMICS MAGAZINE TO HIT THE STANDS SINCE THE HEYDAY OF WIZARD MAG! A MUST-READ, LOADED WITH CONTENT, INCLUDING GREAT COMIC REVIEWS, INTERVIEWS WITH CREATORS SUCH AS ALAN MOORE, PRICE GUIDES & MORE!
Growing up in the '90s, I remember one of the standards of my comic shop visits being that once a month arrival of Wizard Magazine. Now, I'm not talking about the former shell of itself that Wizard had become in the early-mid 2000s, but back when it was a thick, comic book sized magazine that had a sharp sense of humor, did not shy away from controversy, and most importantly, spotlighted some extremely innovative comics at the time.

There were so many series I discovered due to Wizard mag back in the day, whether it was Evan Dorkin's MILK AND CHEESE, David Lapham's STRAY BULLETS, Drew Hayes's POISON ELVES, or Jeff Smith's BONE, these were all series that at the time were very obscure, and Wizard really brought a spotlight onto them.

It's pretty darn awesome to see Rich Johnston at Bleeding Cool picking up that torch, and bringing us a real deal magazine that's ABOUT comics.

From everything I've seen about the new Bleeding Cool mag, I gotta tell you: it's a pretty awesome read, and I'd give it a high recommendation this week, Third Eye Faithful.
