This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 12/5/12

AVENGERS #1 debuts this Wednesday, kicking off the biggest Marvel NOW titles of the year!
Join us this Wednesday for our AVENGERS #1 launch Party Event!
Dude. This looks so freakin' fantastic, it's ridiculous. Jonathan Hickman and Jerome Opena. Two of our favorite creators here at Third Eye. Together. ON THE AVENGERS?!
One word: AWESOME.
Seriously, Hickman, who wows us already with MANHATTAN PROJECTS, and SECRET, and who totally redefined what the FF were in his FANTASTIC FOUR run, is about to make comic magic all over again with his new spin on the Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
This is it, Third Eye Faithful, the big leagues, and we cannot wait to see how it plays out. Heck, even the team roster has us geeking out, with a mix of iconic faves like THE HULK, CAPTAIN AMERICA and WOLVERINE, along with cult favorites like Carol Danvers CAPTAIN MARVEL and THE BLACK WIDOW.
The biggest, and the boldest the Marvel Universe are united under one time. The AVENGERS "go large" in this title, expanding their roster, and their sphere of influence to a global and even interplanetary level.
We don't want to ruin the surprise, but a big part of the drive here is when Cap puts out his call -- who will answer? Big threats, big ideas, big idealism -- this is a new AVENGERS, and a new Marvel Universe, and hot damn, it's the coolest thing we've seen in a long time.
You've been waiting for an AVENGERS title that captures the universe-spanning, all encompassing feel of the MARVEL UNIVERSE? You've been waiting for an Avengers title that's action packed from start to finish?
Folks, this is it. Assemble!
Join us Wednesday for our AVENGERS #1 Launch Party
11AM-9PM
This book is so big that it warrants a special release, and we're doing it up big by doing a very special AVENGERS launch party for the title on this Wednesday.
We'll be offering special promotions on AVENGERS-related items, offering giveaways with purchase of AVENGERS #1, and of course, you'll be able to get first crack at all the AVENGERS #1 variant covers, as well as a chance to purchase the Launch Party exclusive AVENGERS #1 DEADPOOL Gangam-style Variant.

DEATH OF THE FAMILY CONTINUES IN DETECTIVE COMICS #15 THIS WEDNESDAY, FEATURING A DIE-CUT JOKER MASK COVER!
One of the best things we're following right now has been the DEATH OF THE FAMILY crossover running through the Bat-Books at DC, and with each issue building on the last, we're really excited to see where the storyline is heading.
This week's DETECTIVE COMICS #15 marks the next official chapter of the crossover, as it comes rocking one of the die-cut JOKER mask covers, and is guaranteed to be a must-read.
In this issue, we learn of the horrifying fate of Penguin at the Joker's hands, and just how has the Clown Prince of Crime involved CLAYFACE and POISON IVY in his all-out-war on the Bat-Family.
Folks, DEATH OF THE FAMILY just keeps on being awesome. What's it all about? THE JOKER has returned, and he's put his face back together after having it sliced off at the end of DETECTIVE COMICS #1.
Now, he's got an agenda: he knows who every single member of the Bat-Family is, and he's out to wreak havoc on them all.
Wanna get caught up? We've got all chapters of DEATH OF THE FAMILY in stock and available now to get you current.

GREAT PACIFIC #2 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, CONTINUING THIS STUNNING NEW POST-APOCALYPTIC SCI-FI THRILLER!
A MUST FOR FANS OF Y: THE LAST MAN & THE MASSIVE
Join us this Saturday for our Release Party of #2 with writer JOE HARRIS
GREAT PACIFIC is one of our favorite IMAGE series of the winter, for sure, and we're really digging the direction it's heading in this week's issue #2.
A great mix of Y: THE LAST MAN and THE MASSIVE, the stunning artwork combined with a sharp story makes for one heck of a good read.
What's it all about? Meet Chas Worthington. Chas comes from money, but he's decided to reject all that, and stick it to his rich oil company pops by searching for a cause worthy of his ingenuity and interest -- but also, of noble intentions.
Enter the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. An island of trash that's literally formed over years and years of refuse being dumped into the oceans. And, it's getting bigger.
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch also happens to be a real thing, and that's where Great Pacific really excels: in taking something that's so insane, yet so real, and using it to tell a very compelling character-driven story.
Throw in some sci-fi weirdness, a little end-of-the-world cliffhanger storytelling, and you've got yourself a great mix for a good story.
And the artwork by Martin Morazzo? INCREDIBLE. If you were a fan of the visuals in a series like NONPLAYER, make sure you take a peek at GREAT PACIFIC.
We're totally into the series, folks, and we highly recommend it. If you're into stuff like THE MASSIVE or Y THE LAST MAN, you'll especially dig it.
Wanna get caught up? We've got issue 1 in stock now to get you current to this week's #2.
Meet GREAT PACIFIC writer JOE HARRIS this Saturday at Third Eye
This Saturday, we're pretty stoked to be having Joe Harris in-store to do a release party of GREAT PACIFIC #2. We'll have plenty of copies of both GREAT PACIFIC 1 & 2 in stock, and available to get you guys on board.
We also will have very limited quantities of the PHANTOM variants of GREAT PACIFIC 1 & 2 available as well.

MIKE MIGNOLA RETURNS TO ART ON HELLBOY WITH THE LONG-AWAITED: HELLBOY IN HELL THIS WEDNESDAY!
THE BIGGEST HELLBOY STORY SINCE SEED OF DESTRUCTION BEGINS THIS WEEK! A GREAT TIME TO JUMP ON BOARD THE OCCULT HERO!
We're HUGE fans of Hellboy, and we're even bigger fans of HELLBOY when Mike Mignola's illustrating as well as writing the title. I mean, you really could not ask for a bigger treat than that, and with this Wednesday's HELLBOY IN HELL #1.. the master has returned.
The pulp horror awesomeness of HELLBOY is one of those things that are truly unique, and are only able to really be born out of the world of comics. This is the kind of storytelling, and concept that could not come out of any other medium. It truly is a series that's born from the DNA of comics, and we love it for that.
Mignola hasn't illustrated a HELLBOY story in quite some time, mostly doing covers, and handling the writing chores of the HELLBOY and BPRD stuff, so to see him venturing into the realm of art again is pretty damn exciting.
After saving the world in The Storm and the Fury, but sacrificing himself and Great Britain, Hellboy is DEAD, cast into HELL, where he finds many familiar faces, and a throne that awaits him.
Mike Mignola returns to draw Hellboy's ongoing story for the first time since Conqueror Worm. It's a story that ONLY Mignola could tell, as more of Hellboy's secrets are revealed at last, in the most bizarre depiction of Hell you've ever seen.
Folks, we know that Mignola art is a treat in and of itself, but the story is just as epic. The destiny of HELLBOY has arrived, and we cannot wait to see how this all plays out.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #699 *DYING WISH CHAPTER 2* -- THE NEW SPIDER-MAN IS BORN... AND WHEN YOU FIND OUT WHO IT IS, YOU'RE GOING TO BE SHOCKED!
By now, many of you have either read the incredible twist that went down in last month's AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #698, or you've at least heard about it.
It's such a good twist though, that we don't want to totally ruin it, so we're going to white out the following text as a spoiler warning, you can highlight if you want to read it:
So, now it's clear that Peter Parker is dead, and Doc Ock is the new Spider-Man. Where do we go from here? With Doc Ock having transferred his consciousness into Peter Parker's body, and Peter Parker's consciousness into his own dying body. Well, that body's dead, and now Otto is THE SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN.
So, with that being said, in this week's AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #699, continuing the red-hot DYING WISH prelude storyline to SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #1, we're going to be seeing just what happens when the NEW Spider-Man shows his old foes in the Sinister Six just how Superior he really is.
Folks, we know we're being tight-lipped but just trust us: this is worth the surprises, and getting on board for the thrillride. It's THAT good.
If you haven't snagged AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #698 yet, we've got plenty of 1st printing copies in stock now to get you caught up to this week's #699.

BEFORE WATCHMEN CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH BEFORE WATCHMEN: MINUTEMEN #5 & BEFORE WATCHMEN: COMEDIAN #4
We're so stoked to see the BEFORE WATCHMEN books back on schedule, and this week we're in for another double-shot of WATCHMEN goodness, as we get both BEFORE WATCHMEN: THE COMEDIAN #4, and BEFORE WATCHMEN: MINUTEMEN #5.
Both of these have been outstanding series, and we're especially digging what Darwyn Cooke is doing with the MINUTEMEN in the prequel that pretty much ties all the BEFORE WATCHMEN books together.
And of course, Azzarello's COMEDIAN series has been off-the-chain, delivering EXACTLY the Comedian story we wanted to read.
Wanna get caught up? We've got BEFORE WATCHMEN MINUTEMEN 1-4 in stock now to get you up to this week's #5, as well as BEFORE WATCHMEN COMEDIAN 1-3 to get you up to this week's #4.

I LOVE TROUBLE #1 ARRIVES FROM IMAGE COMICS THIS WEDNESDAY DELIVERING A KILLER NEW ONGOING SERIES WHERE ONE GIRL CHOOSES TO USE HER NEWFOUND SUPERPOWERS TO ROB THE WORLD INSTEAD OF SAVING IT!
Here's a new series that really stuck out when we were putting together the orders last month.
Image Comics has a reputation of putting out neat, fresh, and innovative titles that really challenge the boundaries of genre, and this brand new ongoing series from IMAGE looks to be another gem from the publisher.
Meet Felicia Castro, a New Orleans grifter on the run from a mobster, Felicia has to flee the Big Easy to hide out in the Midwest. Then her plane crashes.
Instead of it being a fiery death for Felicia, the crash turns out to be a new beginning. Felicia discovers she has the ability to teleport, a power she thinks will be an easy fix to all of her problems. But Felicia is someone who follows trouble, and her power opens up a whole new world of crime and exploitation.
See, Felicia, she sees her new ability as the perfect way to rob a world that's been none-to-kind to her blind.
We LOVE the art style of Mark Robinson on this, with a very Will Eisner sense of dynamic storytelling that really makes the book pop off the page at you.
Give this one a look this Wednesday, Third Eye Faithful.

STAR WARS: PURGE - THE TYRANT'S FIST #1 (OF 2) DELIVERS A KICK-ASS DARTH VADER STORY SET IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE EVENTS OF REVENGE OF THE SITH!
Wanna see Vader hunting down the remaining Jedi Knights? This is the book to read!
Shortly after the birth of the Empire, Darth Vader, master of combat, terror of his enemies, continues his purge of the JEDI KNIGHTS on a planet where his Jedi prey are revered.
Amidst a planetwide insurgency, the Dark Lord of the Sith must snuff out one last surviving Jedi, as well as kill the fire of Rebellion in the native populace.
All will bow to the power of Vader and the Galactic Empire.
Folks, this one was pretty damn awesome, 'cause lets face it: it's a Darth Vader story set right before A NEW HOPE, showcasing the Dark Lord at his most bad-ass: killing jedi.

DEADPOOL #3 -- THE NEW MARVEL NOW DEADPOOL SERIES CONTINUES TO DELIVER THE BEST TAKE ON THE MERC WITH A MOUTH WE'VE READ IN AGES!
MEET WRITER BRIAN POSEHN AT THIRD EYE ON SAT. 12/22!
I can't remember the last time that I looked forward to DEADPOOL this much. I remember back in the day being a huge DEADPOOL fan during the JOE KELLY run, and I liked most of the Daniel Way run, but this current run is definitely our favorite so far.
Why? Well, first off: it's a dream team for the book. Covers by GEOFF DARROW (!), art by TONY MOORE of WALKING DEAD fame (!), story from two totally legitimately funny and talented guys in GERRY DUGGAN (!) and BRIAN POSEHN (!)... I mean, if I had to do anymore !s, I'd wear out the key for it. Seriously though, the book is good!
So, you're probably wondering... what's it all about? Why're we so in love with it? Well, the opening arc has DEADPOOL being hired in secret by SHIELD to disembowel, and head-shot a legion of undead zombie US Presidents.
And, in this week's issue #3, it's the big kahuna himself, Tricky Dick Nixon!
Plus: DOCTOR STRANGE being totally awesome? How can we say no to that?
Wanna get caught up? We've got copies of DEADPOOL #1 & #2 in stock now to get you up to current.
MEET DEADPOOL writer and comedian BRIAN POSEHN on Saturday 12/22 at Third Eye's VERY DEADPOOL X-MAS
Been reading the new DEADPOOL series? You can bring all 3 of your issues in on 12/22 and get them signed by series co-writer BRIAN POSEHN at our very special year-end signing event A VERY DEADPOOL X-MAS with BRIAN POSEHN.

X-O MANOWAR VOL.1 BY THE SWORD TRADE PAPERBACK DROPS THIS WEDNESDAY FOR ONLY $9.99, COLLECTING THE FIRST FOUR ISSUES OF THE FLAGSHIP VALIANT COMICS TITLE
The VALIANT COMICS revival which has reintroduced classic Valiant characters, and brought brand new, fresh spins to them has had us hooked in a major way, and X-O MANOWAR has been serving as the flagship of the Valiant universe.
In this first volume, which collects issues 1-4 for only $9.99, we're introduced to Aric of Dacia, a brash warrior and heir to the throne of the Visigoth people.
He has lived his life under the heel of the Roman Empire, but now a far more terrible enemy has come to subjugate him. Taken from his home and family, Aric is enslaved aboard a starship belonging to a brutal race of alien colonizers known as The Vine.
If he is to have any hope of escaping and returning to Earth, he will have to steal the Vine's most powerful weapon - a sentient suit of indestructible armor - and become X-O Manowar!
Incredible artwork, sharp storytelling, the new X-O MANOWAR is a must-read, and does an outstanding job of relaunching the world of Valiant so that new and old readers alike can enjoy it.

BLACKACRE #1 FROM IMAGE COMICS BEGINS A BOLD NEW ODYSSEY FILLED WITH POST-APOCALYPTIC AWESOMENESS! TRIBAL CULTS, ROAMING BANDS OF BARBARIANS, VICIOUS WARLORDS! A MUST-READ!
Dude, this book looks totally awesome. If you're into stuff like PLANETOID or PROPHET, this is especially a must. A great dark sci-fi post-apocalyptic survival story that grips a hold of you and does not let go.
100 years after the fall.. a new great game begins.
A retired soldier on a secret mission... sent out from the walled city and the only life he's ever known into the violent wilderness of the world of the fall!
Tribal cults, roaming bands of barbarians, vicious warlords -- it's everything you love about the apocalypse, and more, Third Eye Faithful.

PUNISHER WAR ZONE #2 -- THE PUNISHER VS. THOR. NUFF SAID.
There's some major mojo going down with the Avengers and the Punisher in the aftermath of AVENGERS VS. X-MEN, and it's all coming to a head in this character-defining miniseries, PUNISHER WAR ZONE.
Greg Rucka is bringing his critically acclaimed run of the Punisher to an end with this series, and we're loving every second of it, even though we're sorry to see him finish such a great run.
This is it though, the final Punisher story before the character is reinvented for Marvel NOW... who IS the Punisher on the new THUNDERBOLTS team? Is it Frank Castle changed from the events of this limited series.. or someone picking up the mantle?
In this week's PUNISHER WAR ZONE #2, the all out war that's erupted between the Punisher and the Avengers continues, as Castle does the unthinkable and puts up a fight against a GOD. That's right, Thor has come for the Punisher, but he's not going down without a fight.

THIRD EYE FAVORITE EVAN DORKIN RETURNS WITH MORE MILK & CHEESE, MORE MURDER FAMILY, AND MORE ELTINGVILLE COMIC BOOK / SCI-FI / FANTASY / HORROR & ROLE-PLAYING CLUB IN THIS WEDNESDAY'S HOUSE OF FUN ONE-SHOT!
I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see a new Dorkin comic on our shelves, Third Eye Faithful. If you're not familiar with this super-funny, super-talented cartoonist, you really need to snag the HOUSE OF FUN one-shot this Wednesday and get some Dorkin in your life.
Dorkin did a great indie comic back in the day called DORK, which featured some hilarious stuff, including the drunken, spiteful misadventures of Milk and Cheese, the homicidal hijinx of the Murder Family, and of course, the self-deprecating humor of the Eltingville Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror & Role-Playing Club.
This week, Dark Horse is packing a bunch of all new strips from Dorkin together into one one-shot for only $3.50, and if you've never read his stuff before ,we're telling you: TRY THIS BOOK. It's going to rule.

THUNDERBOLTS #1 -- The MARVEL NOW Thunderbolts is set to explode this Wednesday -- this book is awesome!
Red Hulk. Venom. Elektra. Deadpool. The Punisher. Forget the courts, forget the jails, forget the system -- this team of Thunderbolts fights fire with fire, targeting the most dangerous and lethal players in the Marvel Universe... for extermination.
Led by General "Thunderbolt" Ross, aka RED HULK, this hand-picked team of like-minded operatives is going to make the world a better place... by all means necessary.
Folks, this book is freakin' BAD-ASS. I mean, the team roster alone is off-the-hook, with characters like ELEKTRA, RED HULK, the Punisher, Deadpool, and more throwing down, but when you put it in the hands of a creative team consisting of DEADPOOL writer DANIEL WAY and PREACHER artist STEVE DILLON, then you KNOW you're in for a treat.
Not for the faint of heart, THUNDERBOLTS does not hold back, delivering a violent, vigilante justice look at the Marvel Universe that pulls no punches.

ALL NEW X-MEN #3 -- THE FLAGSHIP X-TITLE OF THE MARVEL NOW LAUNCH CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY
Man, MARVEL is not messing around here, a back-to-back dose of ALL NEW X-MEN, and folks: this book kicks so much ass, after last week's #2, we're really glad they hurried this one out to pick right up after the end of #2.
We don't want to ruin too much here, 'cause the twists are pretty damn cool, but here's what you need to know:
the classic X-Men team has been brought back from the past to the present day, and they don't like what they see. This includes Jean Grey.
Now, it's up to them to change the course of things... and, then, the Phoenix 5 come along, and it all goes to hell.
Seriously, this book kicks ass, and may be our favorite X-Title since the debut of WOLVERINE & THE X-MEN. Highly recommended.

IRON MAN #3 -- The new STEALTH armor debuts in IRON MAN #3 this Wednesday as MARVEL NOW continues
Dude, are you reading Kieron Gillen's IRON MAN? This book is freakin' hot. Seriously. It's really great stuff, and we're not surprised, 'cause Gillen wowed the hell out of us for over a year and some change on the Loki-centric JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY.
Now, he's bringing a very cool, futurist-driven slant to the Armored Avenger, while going totally William Gibson on us and playing up that whole fear of technology thing.
See, the living armor known as EXTREMIS that's powered Iron Man for the better part of the last decade has gone rogue, and now Tony's in some deep, deep trouble.
He must downgrade, but in this issue, he's learning that old dogs do have new tricks, as he debuts a stealth armor that totally harkens back to the Armor Wars days.
Great storytelling, great artwork, the new IRON MAN is another top notch read in the MARVEL NOW line-up.
Wanna get into it? We've got issues 1 & 2 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #3.

THINK TANK ARRIVES IN TRADE PAPERBACK THIS WEDNESDAY, COLLECTING THE FULL LIMITED SERIES!
FIGHTING THE MAN.. WITH SCIENCE!
Think Tank was one of our favorite new reads to pop up this past Summer, with it's very TRANSMETROPOLITAN-esque wit and sci-fi stylings, and we're pretty pumped to see the book arriving in trade paperback this Wednesday.
What's it about? Meet Dr David Loren. He's many things: child prodigy, inventor, genius, slacker... mass murderer? When a military think tank's smartest scientist decides he can no longer stomach creating weapons of destruction, will he be able to think his way out of his dilemma or find himself subject to the machinations of smaller men?
Collecting the entire limited series, this trade is also jam packed with a complete cover gallery, bonus articles, behind-the-scenes sketches, and more.
One of our favorite new series out of Top Cow this year, make sure you snag a copy and give it a shot.

STAFF PICKS
STEVE: LEGEND OF LUTHER STRODE #1 - Holy crap -- every bit as awesome as the first series, BUT BETTER. How could we not pick this?
TRISH: LEGEND OF LUTHER STRODE #1 - By far, my favorite book last week.
TORMA: LEGEND OF LUTHER STRODE  #1 - Too good!
SHAUN: MULTIPLE WARHEADS #2  -  With its surreal locations and bizarre character designs, this comic is like some kind of hilarious slacker version of SAGA. I love it!

RYAN: THOR GOD OF THUNDER #2 - This may be the best book in the Marvel Now and for good reason. The art alone will blow you away.
JOHN: UNCANNY AVENGERS #2 - The Red Skull is back and he is not playing around! I highly recommend that you pick up this series if you haven't already.
MATT: AMERICAN VAMPIRE #33  - Scott Snyder's original series is still crushing it. With a death of one of the major characters, I cant wait to see ware the man behind the New 52 Batman is taking this!
LEXI: BEDLAM #2 -- Even darker, and more intriguing than issue #1
