This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 11/13/13

LOCKE & KEY writer JOE HILL debuts a horrific voyage into the holidays with STUFF OF LEGEND artist CHARLES PAUL WILSON III this Wednesday in THE WRAITH: WELCOME TO CHRISTMASLAND #1
We are HUGE fans of Joe Hill and his fantastic horror series LOCKE & KEY, so when we saw he had a brand new project in the works with one of our favorite artists, STUFF OF LEGEND's Charles Paul Wilson III, we knew were in for a treat.
And, I can't deny that we love seeing horror-themed Christmas stories. I mean, whether it's Nightmare Before Christmas or cult favorites like Christmas Evil, we love 'em. There's just something about terrifying things mixed with yuletide cheer.
In the terrifying funhouse world of Christmasland, there's one man who rules all: the mad man Charlie Talent Manx III.
Now, in this all new original comic mini-series, Joe Hill throws wide the candy cane gates to tell a standalone story that's going to leave you looking twice at every Frosty the Snowman and mall Santa you see.
Wilson's art is PERFECT for the book, as he brings his classic storybook-esque style to the horrific realm of Christmasland, and brings it together in a unique and original way.
Highly recommended, make sure you snag yourself a copy this week.

ZERO YEAR BRINGS THE RIDDLER & BATMAN HEAD TO HEAD IN THIS WEEK'S BATMAN #25!
We've been huge fans of the entire Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo run of BATMAN: ZERO YEAR since it's inception, and we're loving the direction they're taking the series.
This arc, which began in BATMAN #21, is basically rebuilding and retelling the earliest days of BATMAN in the NEW 52, as Snyder & Capullo craft the Zero Year of the DARK KNIGHT perfectly.
This week's issue #25 reaches a new level as the Riddler sends Gotham City into total darkness!
"Dark City" begins in this issue that features a special embossed ZERO YEAR cover.
Wanna get caught up on the ZERO YEAR saga? We've got issues 21-24, the first four chapters, available now to get you on board.
Wanna go back further on Snyder & Capullo's incredible run? We've got the first three graphic novels, BATMAN: COURT OF OWLS, BATMAN: CITY OF OWLS, and BATMAN: DEATH OF THE FAMILY all available, which will bring you up to issue #17 -- then we can catch you up with issues 18-25.
Either way: get into this. It's THE best BATMAN title that's been done in a long time; ranking up there with HUSH, BATMAN YEAR ONE, and more.

WALKING DEAD VOL.19: MARCH TO WAR TRADE PAPERBACK ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY -- New WALKING DEAD Graphic Novel? See you soon. :)
You know us, Third Eye Faithful -- we're HUGE fans of the WALKING DEAD here. And, we can't deny it: one of the most satisfying ways to read WALKING DEAD is in graphic novel format; one big slab of awesomeness all at once.
So, whenever a new WALKING DEAD trade comes out, we gotta sing it's praises, 'cause we know you're every bit as excited as we are about it!
This week marks the arrival of WALKING DEAD VOLUME 19 MARCH TO WAR, which precedes the huge ALL OUT WAR storyline that's kicked off in WALKING DEAD #115.
Rich. Ezekiel. Gregory. Negan. Each man holds the fate of their community in their hands... and war is on the horizon.
In the aftermath of volume 18's shocking events, get to learn the major players in a war that will leave the WALKING DEAD world completely changed.
Never read WALKING DEAD before? Folks, I cannot tell you enough: it's one of the best things going, and if you're even remotely into the show; trust us: the book destroys it.
Don't get me wrong, the show is solid, but man, the comics are so good -- they really do capture something unique here.
Wanna get started? You can either begin with volume 1, collecting issues 1-6 for only $14.99, or you can save a few bucks by getting the first WALKING DEAD Compendium, which collects the first 8 graphic novels (first 48 issues) into one massive tome for only $60! That's almost 50% you're saving over buying the volumes individually.
Either way, trust us: get into it! It's really THAT good.

MARVEL KNIGHTS X-MEN #1 FOLLOWS IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE KILLER NEW MARVEL KNIGHTS: SPIDER-MAN MINI-SERIES DELIVERING A KICK-ASS WOLVERINE / ROGUE / KITTY PRYDE TEAM-UP STORY!
We were really impressed with last month's MARVEL KNIGHTS Spider-Man, which offered the premise of an imprint where iconic Marvel characters could be taken out of normal continuity and get a plain kick-ass story told that was self-contained.
Now, we're getting a really rad follow-up with MARVEL KNIGHTS X-MEN, which features Wolverine, Kitty Pryde, and Rogue setting out on the road to rescue new mutants from being murdered.
But their help may not be welcome in the backwoods town where the horrors are occurring -- and the murderer may be closer to them than they think.
A fantastic gritty murder mystery told by the very talented newcomer Brahm Revel (Guerrillas).

UNITY #1 -- The PERFECT place to get into the cutting edge world of VALIANT Comics starts this Wednesday in the company-wide crossover UNITY.
Folks, the crew at Valiant Comics has done an outstanding job of delivering the goods for nearly two years straight now, and it's about time you give them a shot.
Their titles read like a really perfect blend of the cutting edge cool and innovation that IMAGE COMICS delivers with the blockbuster widescreen appeal of MARVEL.
In UNITY: to kill a king, he has created an army. The world's most dangerous man, Toyo Harada, has been struck by the one thing he never thought possible -- fear.
Halfway across the globe, a new power threatens to topple modern civilization and, to preempt the cataclysm that is to come, Harada will unite the most unforgiving team the world has ever known -- UNITY.
Their mission: defeat the threat responsible for the destruction of MI-6, the decimation of an alien world, and the occupation of Eastertn Europe.
Unseat the warrior king armed with the universe's most powerful weapon: KILL X-O MANOWAR.
Third Eye Faithful, we're big fans of the cool stuff Valiant has been doing, and UNITY is a perfect, new-reader friendly way to get into their world and give them a shot.
Pick up the UNITY #1 Phantom Variant & Enter the Valiant Comics UNITY #1 "Draw Your Own Cover" Art Contest!
You know a book is a big deal when it comes with a PHANTOM variant, and UNITY is a perfect candidate.
However, this PHANTOM variant edition is actually a little extra special -- reason being is that it's actually two covers in one.
First, there's the blank art-textured cover wrap as seen above, and then there's the interior uber-cute Li'l Unity art.
The reason there's a blank wrap on this one is because in collaboration with the PHANTOM variant folks, we're offering the first ever PHANTOM art contest.
How's it work? Well, in a nutshell: you buy as many of the Phantom variants as you like (one or one hundred, whatever works for you!), and do your best to draw hip some totally kick-ass VALIANT characters on the front wrap.
Once you've done that, you shoot us a scan or picture of the book via email at info@thirdeyecomics.com, and we'll submit them to the PHANTOM group to pick a winner when the whole thing is complete.
Now, the good stuff: what can you win?
First off: you'll get your art featured on the Valiant Comics tumblr page -- this goes for everyone who submits!
The Third Eye 1st Prize which is basically for the winner we choose from our store submissions, which is a Valiant prize pack featuring signed books, variants, and more.
And, then finally, the GRAND PRIZE -- a one-on-one portfolio review with VALIANT COMICS executive editor Warren Simons via Skype or phone.

INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US VOL.1 HC ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, COLLECTING THE DC COMICS SLEEPER HIT!
LOVED SUPERMAN: RED SON? WANT MORE EVIL SUPERMAN -- READ THIS BOOK!
The INJUSTICE video game was a pretty awesome play, but what was even more surprising was how freakin' good the INJUSTICE comics are.
This new series took everyone by surprise with how innovative, and just plain awesome it's turned out to be, and now, nearly a year strong, INJUSTICE is one of the DC books we look forward to the most!
In this graphic novel, collecting the first six issues of INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US, we're shown an alternate take on the DC Universe where Superman is tricked into destroying the one thing he loves the most.
Now, unwilling to let crime go unpunished, the heroes of our world must choose if they are with Superman or against him.
In a very SUPERMAN: RED SON-esque take, Superman begins imposing a new world order -- and not every country will submit, oh, and neither will BATMAN.
Fantastic stuff, folks, snag yourself a copy this Wednesday and give it a shot!

IMAGE COMICS DELIVERS UMBRAL THIS WEDNESDAY, BRINGING YOU A NEW DARK FANTASY THAT WILL APPEAL TO FANS OF "SAGA"
We almost overlooked this one at first, but then when we had the preview land in our inbox -- we knew this was something special.
UMBRAL is a fantastic riff into the genre of modern fantasy, that takes a very dark look at a very steampunky kinda world.
In much the same way that SAGA has revolutionized the space opera, UMBRAL looks to take a similar approach to the world of Victorian-influenced fantasy.
Meet the young thief called Rascal, as he witnesses the horrific murder of the royal family -- and now, the world's dark legends will be relived, and only Rascal knows why.
UMBRAL brings you a new fantasy world rich in mythology, history, and well.. BLOOD!
Seriously, very cool stuff -- great art, great storytelling; a must-read.

SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #21 -- The love of Doc Ock's life returns, and she's going to avenge her lost love by KILLING THE SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN?
We are loving the heck out of SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN, and this week's issue #21 brings back a character that many of us haven't seen in a long time.
During the same era as the Clone Saga, there was a subplot with Doc Ock -- see, the Doctor actually found someone who was fond of him, and that was the totally kick-ass Stunner.
Now, Stunner is back and she wants revenge for the only man she ever loved -- OTTO OCTAVIUS!
How will she avenge him? By killing Superior Spider-Man!
One of the best MARVEL books on the stands keeps getting better!
Wanna hop on? We've got issues 1-20 in stock now to catch you up.

IMAGE COMICS & ROBERT KIRKMAN'S (WALKING DEAD Creator) SKYBOUND PRESENT MANIFEST DESTINY #1 THIS WEDNESDAY!
THE UNTOLD ADVENTURES OF LEWIS & CLARK!
Another new IMAGE title that's dropping this week, and looks completely kick-ass is MANIFEST DESTINY #1.
In the year 1804, Captain Meriwether Lewis and Second Lieutenant William Clark set out on an expedition to explore the uncharted American frontier.
And, this, this is the story of what they discovered lurking in the wilds...
The newest series from Robert Kirkman's SKYBOUND imprint (Clone, Witch Doctor, Thief of Thieves, etc.) unveils the monsters of the western frontier in the adventure of a lifetime by newcomers Chris Dingess and Matthew Roberts.
Picture this: it's the very early days of the United States, we really don't know what the heck is out there in the world, and two men are tasked by Thomas Jefferson with the job of studying the area's plants, animal life and geography.
But, what they get instead is otherworldly monsters, and other perils that await.
This book looks AWESOME!

But, what are their chances of survival on a world being run by the deadliest super-villains? A world that looks to Lex Luthor as it's hero?
Third Eye Faithful, DC's best event in quite some time just keeps getting better this Wednesday.

IMAGE'S NEW SPARTAN SERIES "THREE" CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY, AND IT'S FREAKIN' AWESOME!
FROM UBER, YOUNG AVENGERS & JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY Writer KIERON GILLEN
Three is probably one of the coolest takes we've seen on the Spartans yet -- and the team of Gillen, Bellaire and Kelly are delivering one of the most kick-ass new IMAGE comics we've seen in quite some time.
After a vicious slaughter, three survivors race towards the free city of Messene. Pursuing them are 300 Spartans.
Why? What makes Sparta think that unleashing this force isn't massive overkill?
What makes a Spartan king agree to lead them?
And what secrets do the Helot workers hold that change everything ?
A fascinating look at the Spartans that you don't see often, as we're shown the bloodthirsty nature of the warriors, and another side to their conquest.

SUPERMAN / WONDER WOMAN #2 CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY, AS IT'S DOOMSDAY vs. SUPERMAN & WONDER WOMAN!
We loved the first issue of SUPERMAN / WONDER WOMAN, and are totally amped for the next installment in this week's SUPERMAN / WONDER WOMAN #2.
Whom the gods destroy, first they piss off! Seeking help against Doomsday, Diana turns to her brother Hephaestus for weapons -- but a more immediate threat is Apollo and the other gods.
They do not approve of Superman as a consort to Diana, and he will have to prove himself in combat!
Great artwork courtesy of Tony S. Daniel, and stellar storytelling from LETTER 44 scribe Charles Soule -- get on board this week!

COFFIN HILL #2 -- A MODERN DAY RIFF ON THE SALEM WITCH TRIALS BRINGS A KILLER NEW HORROR SERIES FROM VERTIGO!
Ten years ago, the sleepy town of Coffin Hill, MA, was infiltrated by a curse that dated back to the Salem Witch trials.
Ex-high society lowlife / black magic user Eve Coffin returns to her hometown as a wounded ex-cop with a huge grudge and a hell of a mission: to take back the terror she unleashed long ago.
The dark horror that seeped through the Coffin Hill woods left one of her friends missing, one in the local mental ward, and one as the head of police.
Now, the horror continues to spread through Eve's crumbling family mansion, taking more of the town's teenagers who stumble in its path.
We loved the first issue of this one, and are totally pumped to read this week's issue #2.

CATACLYSM ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #1 -- THE END TIMES FOR THE ULTIMATE UNIVERSE EXTEND TO ULTIMATE SPIDEY THIS WEDNESDAY!
We're loving the CATACLYSM storyline which has Galactus of the regular 616 Marvel Universe eating his way through universe after universe... and now, working on the Ultimate worlds, and we cannot wait to see what's going down in this week's CATACLYSM: ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN mini.
Miles Morales learned the meaning of having great responsibility and put his costume back on after mourning the tragic death of his mother.
Now, he stands to lose his entire world as a cosmic threat descends on Earth.
Can Spider-Man and his friends, Cloak & Dagger, and Spider-Woman, make a difference in the face of apocalypse?

ROCKET GIRL #2 -- A TIMECOP FROM THE FUTURE FIGHTING CRIME IN 1980s NEW YORK CITY!
We LOVE this comic!
Teen future-cop DaYoung Johansson hits 1980s NYC like a meteor.
People can't get enough of the Rocket Girl: she's fighting crime, saving citizens, and causing a sensation.
But she's also trying to right a wrong in a mystery so deep it could change the future forever.
There's a lot more going on here than anyone knows about -- and it might be more than the 15-year old super detective can handle.
We're loving this book, with fantastic art by Amy Reeder, and a super cool story set in one of our favorite decades: the 1980s! Even better, 1980s NYC!
Plus: it's about a time-travelling teen police force with jetpacks, and ray guns.
How can you not love it?

THE FALLOUT OF BATTLE OF THE ATOM IS EXPLORED IN THIS WEEK'S ALL NEW X-MEN #18
By far, our favorite book of the X-Men line-up has gotta be ALL NEW X-MEN, nearly 20 issues strong, and hot damn, it's still just as good as when it first began.
This week's ALL NEW X-MEN #19 showcases the aftermath of the red-hot BATTLE OF THE ATOM crossover that concluded this month.
Now, with the X-Men shaken to their core by the events surrounding BATTLE OF THE ATOM, Kitty Pryde is lost with her students gone.
Highly recommended, Third Eye Faithful, ALL NEW X-MEN is the definition of everything we love about X-MEN comics and then some.

THE HISTORY OF HIP HOP IS EXPLORED IN FANTAGRAPHIC'S HIP HOP FAMILY TREE GRAPHIC NOVEL THIS WEDNESDAY
A MUST-READ!
One of the things we love about our jobs here at Third Eye is getting to share stuff with you guys that you may not have otherwise known about. It's those real hidden gems of awesomeness that we love to share with you, and hear what you thought about it.
In HIP HOP FAMILY TREE, cartoonist Ed Piskor does an incredible job of delivering a complete comic book experience while detailing the history of hip hop, taking you from the parks and rec rooms of the South Bronx to the night clubs, recording studios, and radio stations where the scene started to boom.
The comic captures the flavor of late '70s New York City perfectly in panels bursting with obsessively authentic detail.
With a painstaking, vigorous and engaging Ken Burns-meets-Stan Lee approach, the battles and rivalries, the technical innovations, the triumphs and failures are all thoroughly researched and lovingly depicted.
As fans of old school hip hop ourselves, we love seeing the way Piskor brings the vivid personalities of old-school pioneers and early stars like DJ Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, the Funky 4+1, Afrika Bambaata, Kurtis Blow, and of course, three kids who would later become RUN-DMC. Plus, the behind-the-scenes characters like Russell Simmons, Sylvia Robinson, and a young Rick Rubin.
So much awesome, folks, Piskor's art style is reminiscent of old school '70s and '80s Marvel comics, with a fantastic method of coloring his work that replicates the same pulpy dotty pages of comics from that era.
The book is awesome. Get it this Wednesday.

FOREVER EVIL: ARKHAM WAR #2 -- Who will protect GOTHAM CITY? One word: BANE.
FOREVER EVIL has been really sparking some killer tie-ins and mini-series, but our favorite so far has been FOREVER EVIL: ARKHAM WAR.
This series has the coolest premise ever: what happens when Batman is gone, and the entirety of Arkham and Blackgate are emptied out onto the streets of GOTHAM CITY?
Who protects the city from it's worst offenders.... well, it looks like Bane is going to be filling the role of Dark Knight for this one. :)
Kick-ass stuff, snag yourself a copy this week and hop on board.
We've got issue 1 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #2.

SHAOLIN COWBOY RETURNS WITH ISSUE #2 THIS WEDNESDAY, DELIVERING SOME OF THE BEST LOOKING COMICS ART ON THE STANDS!
He came, he "Sawed", but will he conquer? The Shaolin Cowboy proves -- in 40 pages of gas-powered mayhem -- that the undead and kung fu don't mix as they mix it up in the second issue of this fantastic series.
We are so happy to see this book back on the shelves, because well, it kicks ass.
Showcasing the art of GEOFF DARROW, we can pretty much promise this is one of the most impressive looking books on the stands -- Darrow's hyper-detailed, kinetic artwork is incredible, and he's not shy about the bloodshed either.
Plus: it's about a kung fu monk wandering a futuristic post-apocalyptic wasteland wielding a staff with a chainsaw on each end... how can you say no to that?
Find out why GEOFF DARROW was the primary storyboard artist on THE MATRIX films... 'cause he's incredible, and try SHAOLIN COWBOY this week at Third Eye.
