This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 1/22/14

MARVEL NOW WAVE 2 hits ALL NEW X-MEN, as a NEW arc & jumping on point begins for the BEST X-Book with THE TRIAL OF JEAN GREY CHAPTER 1 in ALL NEW XMEN 22.NOW!
OK -- so this is one of the most exciting things ever. Seriously. Marvel has been hitting a home run nearly every month with the awesomeness that is ALL NEW X-MEN, and this week's Marvel NOW Wave 2 jump on point for the series is a MUST-READ.
Have you been slacking on picking up this incredible title? Waiting for a great place to get on board? Now's your chance, Third Eye Faithful, as ALL NEW X-MEN, is one of the top shelf Marvel NOW books, rivaled only by SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN in terms of sheer quality and innovation.
This week, one of the biggest story arcs in the book yet begins with the TRIAL OF JEAN GREY, as young Jean Grey, who's traveled from the past along with the other original X-Men from yesteryear is being put on trial for the crimes that the Phoenix committed against many alien worlds.
Of course, the X-Men and the Guardians of the Galaxy aren't really too cool with this -- and sparks are going to fly.
Only the X-Men and the Guardians can save Jean from a twisted sense of intergalactic justice for crimes that she has yet to commit.
Folks: Bendis and Immonen are absolutely KILLER on this title, and it really is the best X-Men title we've read in a long, long time.
Hop aboard with issue #22, and find out what all the hype is about.
Also, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY readers, this is the first chapter in a crossover between ALL NEW X-MEN and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, so make sure you snag this issue, as it will continue in this month's GUARDIANS.

BATMAN #27 *ZERO YEAR* -- Snyder & Capullo's ZERO YEAR nears it's conclusion... and things GET CRAZY!
For nearly three years, Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo have been doing THE definitive Batman run of the 21st century, and this week's issue #27 continues to raise the bar on this incredible piece of comic goodness.
As the ZERO YEAR arc marches on, building the tapestry of Batman's first years on the job, and exploring the building blocks that have built the lore of both Gotham and the Caped Crusader, we're taken into even darker territories with Batman and Jim Gordon trying to turn the lights back on Gotham City.
The end of ZERO YEAR is near -- and where we go next: you're going to be shocked.
Get into this great run, starting with ZERO YEAR chapter 1 in BATMAN issue #21 ( in stock now ), and then we've got the subsequent chapters (22-26) in stock to catch you up.
Wanna go back to the very beginning? Snag the BATMAN VOL.1 COURT OF OWLS graphic novel, and we'll catch you up from there to current.
Either way: do NOT sleep on what is the BEST Batman run since Frank Miller's YEAR ONE and DARK KNIGHT RETURNS arcs.

George Romero's EMPIRE OF THE DEAD #1 arrives this Wednesday, delivering the next epic story by NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD / DAWN OF THE DEAD creator GEORGE ROMERO!
Folks, George Romero needs no introduction, but -- just in case, you're unaware: this is the legendary film-maker who pretty much introduced the concept of flesh-eating zombie bastards with NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, DAWN OF THE DEAD and DAY OF THE DEAD.
So, when we saw the Godfather of Grue would be bringing his unique vision to the world of comics in collaboration with Marvel Comics -- we knew we were in for a treat.
In EMPIRE OF THE DEAD, we're taken to NYC years after the undead plague has erupted -- but just because Manhattan has been quarantined, it doesn't mean everyone inside is safe!
Not only do flesh-eaters roam within Manhattan, but there's another ancient predator about to take a bite out of the Big Apple!
Featuring the gritty realistic art of Bendis-era DAREDEVIL and SCARLET artist ALEX MALEEV!
Get into it this Wednesday, Third Eye Faithful.

MARVEL NOW WAVE 2: LEGENDARY "STARMAN" creator & former EARTH-2 writer JAMES ROBINSON makes his MARVEL debut with ALL NEW INVADERS #1
Third Eye Faithful, you've known us long enough now, to know that we're big fans of James Robinson, and his now-classic DC series STARMAN (if you haven't read it yet: YOU NEED TO!), as well as his more recent work on the stunning NEW 52 series EARTH-2.
So, when we saw the man responsible for making Golden Age DC heroes cool again was going to be taking on a very Golden Age concept for the ALL NEW MARVEL NOW line-up, we knew we were in for a real treat.
With the stunning art of Steve Pugh (Animal Man, Hotwire), Robinson brings a modern day, unique take to the INVADERS.
The KREE EMPIRE intends to conquer the universe using a weapon that will grant them an army of NORSE GODS. Yes, an amy of NORSE GODS, you heard me right.
And, it's going to be up to four heroes, brought together by their past -- CAPTAIN AMERICA, NAMOR, THE ORIGINAL HUMAN TORCH, and the WINTER SOLDIER -- who must now face the future and wage war against the KREE to save Earth.
Folks: I've never been a big INVADERS guy, but I read this, and I have to tell you -- I'm in love with it. One of the most kick-ass books to hit yet, and yes, it is in the current continuity, so this is POST-AvX Namor, post-INFINITY Cap, etc.

HARLEY QUINN #2 BRINGS A REUNION AS HARLEY & IVY SET OUT TO... RESCUE SOME PUPPIES AND KITTENS? What could go wrong?
We LOVE this book!
Okay, how can you NOT love an ongoing series that stars the one and only Harley Quinn? I mean, c'mon: it's Harley.
But, seriously, writers Palmiotti and Conner are knocking it out of the park here, delivering the pitch-perfect Harley comic that we've always wanted.
And, artist Chad Hardin is KILLING on the art here, as he brings the world of Harley to life with the perfect balance of traditional superhero art and fun, light-hearted cartooning.
In this week's issue #2, Harley and Ivy reunite for a mission so big, so crazy, so awesome, you won't believe what it is: okay, so maybe the adorable puppies and kittens on the cover gave it away, but still: how wrong could this go?
Wanna hop on board? We've got issues 0 & 1 in stock to catch you up to this week's #2.

THIRD EYE FAVORITE PRETTY DEADLY CONTINUES WITH THIS WEEK'S PRETTY DEADLY #4 -- One of our favorite IMAGE series to begin last year!
With every issue, KellySue DeConnick & Emma Rios's incredible PRETTY DEADLY gets better, and better.
One part gritty, blood and dirt Western in the vein of DEADWOOD or THE WILD BUNCH, and one part otherworldly supernatural thriller in the vein of Neil Gaiman's THE SANDMAN, Pretty Deadly delivers on all fronts, be it art, story -- it's incredible all the way through.
In PRETTY DEADLY #4, every Death must love, and every Death must die; the cycle of the world demands it.
The one who captures our last breath must breathe his last before becoming inured to the pain of loss.
This cycle is ending soon -- but, this Death? This Death is not going easily into the night.
What's the plot behind PRETTY DEADLY? Focusing on the daughter of the Grim Reaper, and blending folklore, fairy tale and Western, PRETTY DEADLY is a unique comic with a unique feel.
A woman riding a pale horse with a skull tattoo'd upon her face, and a world dripping with mythology -- PRETTY DEADLY is the example of why we love IMAGE COMICS so much.
Want to get into it? We've got issues 1-3 in stock to catch you up to this week's #4.

BOOM STUDIOS BRINGS ALYSSA MILANO'S HACKTIVIST #1 TO LIFE THIS WEDNESDAY -- AND WE TOTALLY DIG IT!
There's no such thing as too much cyberpunk, and this week's HACKTIVIST #1 from the creative mind of Alyssa Milano, is one of the coolest trips we've seen into the cyberpunk genre in a minute.
In HACKTIVIST, Ed Hiccox and Nate Graft are young, brilliant, and the cofounders of YourLife, a social networking company that has changed the way the world stays connected.
In secret, these best friends are also 'sve_Urs3lf', the largest whitehat hacking group on the planet, exposing information and sparking revolutions across the globe.
Super cool stuff from our pals at BOOM STUDIOS, who've brought us favorites like IRREDEEMABLE, and the MIDAS FLESH.

MARVEL NOW WAVE 2: BLACK WIDOW #2 -- THE BEST DARN BLACK WIDOW SERIES YET CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY!
Man, we were really impressed by issue #1 of the new BLACK WIDOW series from Nathan Edmondson (THE ACTIVITY, WHO IS JAKE ELLIS?) and PHIL NOTO (INFINITE HORIZON), so it's an understatement when we say we're more than a little stoked about this week's issue #2.
This book brings a very hard-edged, cold war-charged spy thriller to the Marvel Universe, and shows us the Black Widow deadlier, and more kick-ass than she's ever been before.
Noto's art is a perfect fit for the world that Edmondson is building, and it's no secret why this was one of everyone's favorite new MARVEL NOW titles -- it's THAT good.
Wanna get on board? We've got issue 1 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #2.

GOTHTOPIA CHAPTER 4: BIRDS OF PREY #27 -- The End of Ra's al Ghul?
We're loving GOTHTOPIA, the strange take on Gotham City, where everything is TOO perfect -- and Batman must discover why.
This week, the awesomeness continues in BIRDS OF PREY #27, Chapter 4, as the Birds of Prey find a new benefactor and a new mission to take down one of the ancient evils of the DC Universe: Ras al Ghul.
And, in the midst of this -- how does the impact of GOTHTOPIA affect them?

MARVEL NOW WAVE 2: THE KILLER NEW SPIN ON X-FACTOR CONTINUES IN ALL NEW X-FACTOR #2 THIS WEDNESDAY
Third Eye Faithful, we told you how much we loved the classic Peter David run of X-Factor that went through the 2000s, quietly building a rabidly loyal fan-following, and continuing to impress right up to it's completion.
Well, if you missed out on that killer era of Marvel goodness, then we highly recommend jumping on this new reader-friendly take on the most unique, and often most innovative X-Book on the stands.
In ALL NEW X-FACTOR, Serval Industries, one of the world's most trusted names in electronics and the leader in cutting-edge internet and weapons technology, has just unveiled their newest contribution to society: the ALL NEW X-FACTOR.
Led by mutant mistress of magnetism, Polaris, the team uses it's corporate backing for the betterment of society.
With her half-brother Quicksilver, and the notorious thief, Gambit, by her side, along with others, can Polaris really trust the intentions of her corporate masters?
We loved issue #1 of this one, and really cannot wait to see this week's issue #2. One of our favorites of the MARVEL NOW Wave 2 line-up thus far.

CROSSED: WISH YOU WERE HERE VOL.3 TP -- The next original graphic novel collection of CROSSED arrives, and it may the be most harrowing yet!
Survival horror at it's finest!
Manipulation, deceit, and petty politics rule the plague survivors living off the Scottish coast, who are deluded into believing their isolated island is safe from the CROSSED.
But, every day, brings them closer to a horrible reckoning, and the truth behind Shaky's past begins to reveal his hidden nature.
Now, the island dreamers have met up with a society living upon a floating city of derelict boats. And, the feeling that something very bad is about to happen is palpable.
Do they trust their new allies, or treat the uninfected with as much caution as the CROSSED?
Folks: CROSSED continues to be one of the best horror comics on the stands. If you've never read it, here's a quick recap of what to expect:
Venture back to the very first series, which we have available in graphic novel format, and we're shown an outbreak of a disease that reduces human beings to their most sadistic, vile, and sinister impulses.
They're not zombies -- and they're not mindless, they're just EVIL.
With a red cross-like rash on their face, and a retention of the knowledge of their former lives and skills (i.e if they could drive before they CROSSED over, they can still drive, etc.) -- the CROSSED are the most ruthless plague visited upon mankind ever seen.

HAWKEYE #16 -- No, you didn't miss #15 -- #16 is releasing before #15, and, we'll explain why. :)
OK, before we go into the raving and ranting about how HAWKEYE is like, one of the best things ever, and we cannot get enough of it -- we'll explain why you're seeing issue #16, before you see issue #15. :)
Beginning with the HAWKEYE ANNUAL ( still in stock ), the series has split it's focus, showcasing both the stories of good ol' Clint Barton, and the always awesome Lady Hawkguy.
Due to the way the story is flowing, Marvel and Fraction felt that Hawkeye #16 with it's Kate story actually makes more sense before the events of issue #15 -- and as such, have put it out before #15.
Ok, we know it's weird -- but, trust us: it's Hawkeye, how can it not be awesome?
In HAWKEYE #16, Lady Hawkguy finds a reclusive and Sixties-damaged pop music genius find his lost masterpiece.
Meanwhile, Madame Masque, finds HER. By which we mean starts trying to kill her again.
Also, the cat needs cat food, and there's none to be found. What's that about ?
And, also, we hear there's Cronuts -- the crueller-donut hybrid that's taking the nation by storm.
OK, folks: it's HAWKEYE, you know it's awesome, we know it's awesome, how can you go wrong?
Wanna get into the series? We've got issues 1-15 in stock to catch you up, or you can snag the first trade to get current.

THE KILLER NEW MANGA, VINLAND SAGA, CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY IN VINLAND SAGA VOL.2
VINLAND SAGA is one of the coolest mangas we've seen get release over here in a while, and ranks up there with recent favorites like ATTACK ON TITAN, and long-time classics like BERSERK, as the kind of manga that both hardcore manga fans and casual, more traditional comic fans can enjoy.
In volume 2, the Viking Invasion of London has reached a fever pitch, and Askeladd and Thorfinn rush to take part in the carnage.
Their goal is the capture of Cnut, the son of King Sweyn Forkbeard and heir to the throne of Scandanavia and the Danelaw.
But, standing in their way is Thorkell, one of the Viking world's most daring warriors.
The defeat of a living legend will be a formidable test of Askeladd's cunning and Thorfinn's ruthlessness, and of their ability to set aside personal grudges and fell a common enemy.

ZERO #5 -- ONE OF OUR FAVORITE IMAGE TITLES CONTINUES TO IMPRESS!
Every issue: we love ZERO more and more. One of the most innovative, and totally kick-ass titles on the stands, we cannot get enough of this book, seriously.
Each issue is PACKED with content, with the story literally beginning on the inside front cover, and not ending until the inside back cover.
And, each issue is a one-shot story, focusing on the same character throughout, delivering satisfying done-in-one "mission"-based storytelling.
In ZERO, Edward ZERO was the best spy the Agency had -- and then he realized he was working for the wrong side.
From there, all hell breaks loose -- and the boundaries of both the form of comics, and the content of the story deliver one hell of an inspiring read.
With each issue set at a different point in Zero's life, and a new artist handling each issue, ZERO really does deliver a unique reading experience.
Wanna get into it? We've got issues 1-4 in stock now to get you up to this week's #5.

JUDGE DREDD: MEGA CITY 2 #1 -- THE CITY OF COURTS features some of the raddest art we've seen in a while!
Not just another DREDD comic, this is THE most bad-ass Dredd comic we've seen in a long time!
Folks, Dredd is one of those long-running characters, that you get A LOT of content from, and normally, it's pretty great, and sometimes it's OK, and very rarely, it's a little soft.
It's just the nature of the beast when it comes to any long-running icon in comics, BUT, let me tell you: this week's JUDGE DREDD MEGA CITY 2 mini-series... is so much more than just a great Dredd comic, this may be one of the best takes we've seen on the Judge, in quite some time.
One of the huge draws here is the incredible art of Ulises Farinas, which will appeal to those of you who dig stuff like James Stokoe's ORC STAIN or GODZILLA: HALF CENTURY WAR, or the art-stylings that are often seen on IMAGE titles like PLANETOID and PROPHET.
In other words, take everything you love about those Geoff Darrow and Moebius-inspired styles, and apply it to Dredd, and you get something totally rad.
In MEGA CITY 2 #1, Dredd heads Californee way!
As part of a judicial exchange program, Dredd is sent to Mega-City Two, a sprawling city covering 5,000 square miles of the Californian West Coast and centered in what was once known as Los Angeles, where he soon discovers that things are done very differently there.
Try it this week at Third Eye!
