This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 5/22/13

IMAGE COMICS DEBUTS A CUTTING EDGE NEW TAKE ON SUPERHEROES WITH
"THE BOUNCE" #1 THIS WEDNESDAY
We've been totally digging many of Image's new releases this year, and this Wednesday's THE BOUNCE looks to be another fun addition to their line-up.
Written by SEX and BUTCHER BAKER RIGHTEOUS MAKER writer JOE CASEY, THE BOUNCE is a fresh new spin on the classic superhero tale... and we loved every second of issue #1.
In BOUNCE, meet the ultimate slacker superhero for the 21st century! Jasper Jenkins is a super-head and a super-hero! He's the reliable friend everyone wishes they had; a down-to-earth dude who finds himself embarking on the adventure of a lifetime.
This series has a really unique feel to it, and while we don't want to give away too much about what goes on here; we'll just say that trust us: there's some very interesting twists involved.
Featuring some totally gorgeous artwork courtesy of David Messina, BOUNCE delivers a snappy, fast-paced in-your-face kinda take on superheroes that could only come out of IMAGE comics.

GREEN TEAM #1 -- Check out the counterpart to Gail Simone's THE MOVEMENT from Third Eye faves ART BALTAZAR and FRANCO!
We loved this month's new DC series, THE MOVEMENT, from Third Eye fave GAIL SIMONE, and are totally pumped to see it's counterpart: the GREEN TEAM arriving this Wednesday with it's first issue!
Inventors! Explorers! Adventurers! Need some dough to finance an important project? Then you gotta set up a meeting with the GREEN TEAM!
In an effort to render the human body obsolete, fracture space and time, maybe attract the attention of some alien lifeforms, and of course, piss off the JUSTICE LEAGUE... the GREEN TEAM are a gathering of super-rich teenagers who go throwing their money around to make the world a better place.
But, the road to hell can be paved with good intentions, and that's what we're going to find out in the pages of GREEN TEAM.
From Third Eye faves ART BALTAZAR & FRANCO, GREEN TEAM looks to be a ton of fun!

FIVE GHOSTS: HAUNTING OF FABIAN GRAY #3 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY -- Meet the creators FRANK J. BARBIERE & CHRIS MOONEYHAM at Third Eye Annapolis this Saturday!
We're totally pumped to have the creators of FIVE GHOSTS coming to the shop this Saturday to celebrate the release of issue #3 of this incredible new series.
Imagine the pulp horror thrills of HELLBOY, the breakneck treasure-hunting fun of INDIANA JONES, and the stylistic, action-packed novelty of an old school 2D sidescrawler, like CASTLEVANIA SYMPHONY OF THE NIGHT.. that sums up FIVE GHOSTS pretty well.
In FIVE GHOSTS, we're introduced to Fabian Gray, a treasure hunter who ran afoul of an artifact known as the DREAMSTONE, and was then possessed by five literary ghosts, gaining access to their unique abilities.
Now, Fabian finds himself delving deeper and deeper into a unique world full of action, black mgaic, exotic locales, and literary allusion.
The series is one of our favorites, and it has so many things going for it. There's the occult intrigue of series like HELLBOY or THE SANDMAN. There's the pulpy treasure hunter aspect that's not far removed from Indiana Jones or Uncharted. And, of course, there's that sense of mystical timelessness that you'd find in an Alan Moore book like LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN.
The series rules, plain and simple. And, this week in issue #3, Fabian meets the Guardian of Dreams... get ready!
Wanna get caught up? We've got issues 1 & 2 in stock now to catch you up to Wednesday's #3.
Meet creators FRANK J. BARBIERE & CHRIS MOONEYHAM at THIRD EYE this Saturday and get your FIVE GHOSTS signed!
We're totally pumped to have these guys as guests this Saturday, so from 11AM-1PM, you can have your chance to meet the creators of FABIAN GRAY.

UNCANNY X-MEN #6 -- Cyclops and his crew face down the classic Doctor Strange villain DORMAMMU in this Wednesday's UXM #6!
We're loving the new MARVEL NOW Uncanny X-Men series, with Cyclops's team of renegade X-Men taking no prisoners, and showing no mercy; so it's pretty rad to see the next issue arriving this Wednesday.
In UNCANNY X-MEN #6, the classic Strange foe, DORMAMMU, returns to deliver some serious pain and misery.... and along the way, the secrets of Magik that've been hidden since the Phoenix Force left her in Avengers vs. X-Men are revealed.
A fantastic series, with great art, and great storytelling, snag issues 1-5 (in stock now) and catch up to this week's #6.

BORDERLANDS: ORIGINS ARRIVES IN TRADE PAPERBACK THIS WEDNESDAY, COLLECTING ALL FOUR ISSUES OF THE KILLER COMIC SERIES!
You guys know we love the heck out of the BORDERLANDS video games, so when we saw IDW was serving up the world of BORDERLANDS in a comic -- we knew we had to get into this.
Like many of you, the lingering question has always been there: how did the Vault Hunters get on the bus with Marcus in the first place? And, now we find out. In BORDERLANDS ORIGINS, find out how Roland got on the bus with Mordecai, Lilith, and Brick in this exciting look at the soldiers of the Crimson Lance and what made him leave their ranks and search for the Vault.
Extremely well done, we give this one a high recommendation!

BATMAN INCORPORATED #11 -- The countdown to Morrison's grand finale of his epic BATMAN run continues!
Man, we are huge fans of the work Morrison has done on BATMAN over the last decade, and as he's winding down his run with BATMAN INCORPORATED, we're pretty pumped to see how he brings everything to an end.
It's been a long time since a writer has really brought the kind of new ideas, and exciting innovation to the realm of the Dark Knight that Morrison has, and with only one issue left after this; we're totally on the edge of our seat to see how it all wraps up.
As Batman's world is devastated by his war against Talia, he finds himself making the ultimate sacrifice: his own humanity.
Plus: meet the Batman of Japan!
Wanna get caught up? We've got issues 1-10 in stock now to catch you up to Wednesday's #11.

NOWHERE MEN #5 -- One of our FAVORITE Image series keeps getting better with this Wednesday's NOWHERE MEN #5
SCIENCE IS THE NEW ROCK-N-ROLL! Nowhere Men is a powerhouse of a comic, which fires on all cylinders; stunning artwork, stunning storytelling, heck, even the lettering and coloring on this book stands out in a major way.
Every component ties together to make one of the most compelling new IMAGE series on the stands, and it's really no surprise at how well this book is put together. The writer happens to be Eric Stephenson, the editor-in-chief and primary tastemaker at IMAGE COMICS who's brought us so many cool series over the years.
Now, imagine him getting to write his OWN story.. and then toss in some incredible artists to match.
NOWHERE MEN tells the story of a world where instead of the Beatles changing the world through rock-n-roll, a supergroup of scientists did it through science.
Now, in the present day, after generation after generation followed in their wake, striving to smash atoms and cure diseases, instead of forming garage bands.... the world is a very different, very fascinating place.
An absolutely incredible read from start to finish, we cannot recommend this series enough, Third Eye Faithful.
Wanna get caught up? We've got issues 1-4 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #5.

MEET THE INFERIOR DEADPOOL IN WEDNESDAY'S DEADPOOL #10 featuring SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN!
Again, and again, the new DEADPOOL run that's been part of the MARVEL NOW keeps on impressing the heck out of us here at Third Eye.
In this week's #10, not only does our hero team up with the one and only not-so-friendly neighborhood Superior Spider-Man, but he also runs afoul of a MAN with AQUATIC powers... hmmm... we wonder who that could be?
Oh, and one of those two die. Seriously.
Wanna get into it? We've got issues 1-9 in stock now to catch you up to Wednesday's #10.

SOLID STATE TANK GIRL #1 BRINGS TANK GIRL BACK TO HER ROOTS IN THIS NEW MINI-SERIES!
We've always had a major soft spot for Tank Girl, and are totally pumped to see one of our favorites returning this Wednesday with a killer new series.
Tank Girl, Jet Girl, Booga and Barney are back, in a mission to save their favorite little radio store.
Everything goes to plan, but somewhere along the line Booga manages to electronically summon a gang of evil counterparts, fronted by the darkest lady on the planet: ANTI-TANK GIRL!
The fight is to the death, as each gang member draws on their deepest, most screwed-up powers to eliminate their own personal nemesis.
Things are about to get very dark, very bloody, and very stupid.
Everything we love about TANK GIRL!

GREEN LANTERN #20 -- GEOFF JOHN BRINGS HIS INCREDIBLE, DECADE LONG RUN OF GREEN LANTERN TO AN END WITH THIS WEDNESDAY'S HISTORIC ISSUE #20.
Geoff John's work on GREEN LANTERN has been one of the brightest shining points of DC Comics for the better part of the last decade. He took a character, who at the time, lacked the substance and depth of other DC icons, and then built an entire mythology around him... and in the process, made the DC Universe as a whole a much more interesting place.
No one can deny the importance, and quality of stories like BLACKEST NIGHT, SINESTRO CORPS WAR, and BRIGHTEST DAY, and now, Johns's run is nearing it's conclusion, and I gotta say: we're sad to see him go -- but we know it's the right time.
We've seen a little bit of what DC has on the horizon for GL, and it looks incredible. Johns is setting everything up perfectly for the creators who intend to follow him, and this week's huge finale to Johns's Green Lantern run is a great chance to pick up on one of the best damn parts of the DC Universe, for nearly 10 years strong.
Never read the earlier Johns stuff? We'd recommend picking up GREEN LANTERN REBIRTH, and starting there. From there, the run begins, and the entire thing is choice stuff.
Whatever you do, make sure you don't miss out on this oversized anniversary issue that closes out Johns's run.

DEVIL MAY CRY: VERGIL CHRONICLES #1 DELIVERS AN ALL-NEW PREQUEL STORY FOR THE EPIC WORLD OF DMC!
We're huge fans of the CAPCOM series DEVIL MAY CRY, so when we saw that Titan Comics, the same publishers who brought us DEAD SPACE and ASSASSIN'S CREED comics, were launching a DEVIL MAY CRY line; we knew it'd be awesome.
In this prequel, we're shown the unmissable backstory of the all-new Dante and his twin brother Vergil; with never-before-seen revelations on the iconic characters of hte game.
Featuring chilling and resplendent art that goes beyond the confines of the game and into ne dimensions of hellish action and atmosphere.
A fantastic delivery of one of the raddest game franchises around, this is a must for any Devil May Cry fans.

SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #10 -- THE GREEN GOBLIN RETURNS!
It starts here! A perfect jumping on point for one of our favorite Marvel books on the stands goes down in this week's SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #10.
How can you go wrong with Slott & Stegman bringing the return of the one and only GREEN GOBLIN.
But, this isn't the same Spider-Man that the Goblin remembers... and it's going to be pretty darn cool to see how the two play off of each other.
Are you reading SUPERIOR SPIDERMAN? No? Folks: you gotta get into this book; it's one of the best things going today.
What's the scoop? In a nutshell, Doc Ock IS Spider-Man. Long story short, in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN DYING WISH (698-700, all in stock now), Otto switched his brain into Peter Parker's body, and with Peter gone; now controls the body of Spider-Man.
His mission? A second chance; a chance for redemption; and heck, even a chance to prove he's a better Spider-Man than Peter ever was.
The hook? He's Doc Ock. A founding member of the Sinister Six, a tragic villain, and ya know, someone who's spent the last few decades as a pretty bad dude.
So, imagine him trying his hardest to do the hero thing -- but his way.
It's so freakin' compelling, and addictive to read, that it's ridiculous.
Wanna start from the beginning? We've got issues 1-9 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #10.

HIGH-FLYING PULP FICTION AWESOMENESS GOES DOWN IN THE NEW SERIES HALF PAST DANGER #1 THIS WEDNESDAY!
Imagine THE ROCKETEER vs. DINOSAURS!
When we first saw the advance pages on HALF PAST DANGER, we thought it looked incredible; so it's cool to see the book finally arriving this Wednesday.
The book is a must for fans of stuff like THE ROCKETEER, and classic pulpy adventure genre stuff like INDIANA JONES.
Dames. Dinosaurs. Danger. How can ya not wanna read it? It's the Summer of 1943 and in the midst of a war waged by monsters, Staff Sergeant Tommy 'Irish' Flynn never expected to encounter a real one.
But, on a remote island in the South Pacific, Flynn and his s quad come face-to-fanged-face with creatures long thought dead.
Great artwork, great storytelling, HALF PAST DANGER is a pretty killer look at the war genre.... with DINOSAURS! And, NINJAS!

BATMAN: LIL GOTHAM #2 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, BRINGING MORE RIDICULOUS, AND TOTALLY ADORABLE GOTHAM CITY ADVENTURES
In issue #2 of Lil Gotham, the search for a missing holiday choir leads Batman and Nightwing into a confrontation with Mr. Freeze.
But, in this heartfelt holiday tale, the frozen fiend's motives aren't quite as nefarious as they seem..
And, then on a festive New Year's Eve, Catwoman thinks she'll be spending a quiet night at home, contemplating her New Year's resolutions -- until Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn show up, that is.
If you loved the A vs. X Babies-style stuff, you'll totally dig Lil Gotham. I mean, how can you go wrong with little kid versions of everyone's favorite Gotham friends and foes?
Wanna jump on? We've got issue 1 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #2.

BLACK MASK STUDIOS, PUBLISHERS OF THE NEW GHOSTFACE KILLAH COMIC, DEBUT ANOTHER NEW TITLE WITH THIS WEDNESDAY'S OCCUPY COMICS #1 featuring work from ALAN MOORE, CHARLIE ADLARD (WALKING DEAD), and ART SPIEGELMAN (MAUS)
We're really being impressed by Black Mask Studios and all of the projects that're coming out from the new publisher, and when we saw the list of talented involved with OCCUPY COMICS, we knew this one had potential to be super cool.
In Occupy Comics #1, a total A-List of top comic talent is brought together to tell stories and tales of the OCCUPY Movement while also raising funds to support it with each sale of the comic.
With a roster of talent including ALAN MOORE & DAVID LLOYD (V FOR VENDETTA), CHARLIE ADLARD (WALKING DEAD), ART SPIEGELMAN (MAUS) and more, this is a once-in-a-lifetime coalition of comics most brilliant creators using sequential art to record history as it's being made.

We're going to find out.. plus: DESPERO!

AKANEIRO #1 REIMAGINES THE MYTHOS OF RED RIDING HOOD COURTESY OF "ALICE: MADNESS RETURNS" creator American McGee!
From the brilliant imagination of video game auteur American McGee comes a dazzling re-imagining of Red Riding Hood set in the wondrous world of Japanese folklore.
The incredibly talented art of Vasilis Lolos brings the story of Kani to life, as we're shown a young woman torn between two cultures on an epic adventure battling devious yokai for the fate of the world.
A very cool new read from Dark Horse, make sure you snag a copy and check it out this Wednesday.

UNCANNY AVENGERS #8AU -- THIS AGE OF ULTRON TIE-IN BRINGS KANG AND THE APOCALYPSE TWINS INTO THE AGE OF ULTRON!
We've been really loving AGE OF ULTRON, especially with the most recent chapters delivering some major revelations about the MARVEL UNIVERSE as a whole, so when we saw that Rick Remender would be tying his incredible UNCANNY AVENGERS title into the series with a crucial AU chapter, we got pretty stoked.
Uncanny Avengers has been one of our favorites amongst the new MARVEL NOW line-up, delivering the kind of non-stop, action-packed Marvel storytelling we love with tons of cool villains, and a very interesting team dynamic (the team's purpose is to be a merging of the X-Men and the Avengers, in a post-AvX Marvel Universe).
In this week's #8AU, Kang and the Apocalypse Twins arrive at the Age of Ultron, but what do they want?
Havok and Rogue, leaders of the Morlocks, must fight to save the man who condemned their people!
What secret will Rogue unearth about the Twins hidden past?
Either jump on with this issue for AGE OF ULTRON, or if you want to go further back, we've got issues 1-8 in stock now to get you current.

GODZILLA: HALF CENTURY WAR TPB -- ORC STAIN & SULLIVAN'S SLUGGERS artist JAMES STOKOE delivers the definitive "GODZILLA: YEAR ONE" story with HALF CENTURY WAR
You guys know we're big, big fans of James Stokoe's work here at Third Eye, so whenever he's got a new project out, we've gotta give it mad shout-outs.
This week, the trade paperback collection of his GODZILLA: HALF CENTURY WAR miniseries arrives, and we're pretty pumped about it.
The year is 1954, and Lieutenant Ota Murakami is on hand when Godzilla makes his first landfall in Japan. Along with his pal, Kentaro, Ota makes a desperate gamble to save lives.. and in the process, begins an obsession with the King of Monsters that lasts fifty years.
Each chapter takes place in a different decade, literally showing a timeline of Godzilla's evolution through the years, as well as showcasing the different monsters he's encountered.
From the atomic scare of the 50s to the environmental concerns of the 70s to the modern day, HALF CENTURY WAR is THE Godzilla comic to end all Godzilla comics. It's that great.
Snag yourself a copy of the trade, and find out why we're so big on this one. I mean, the artwork alone makes it worth it.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE FOR WEDNESDAY 1/19/2011

*NEW RELEASES THIS WEDNESDAY AT THIRD EYE - NO HOLIDAY DELAY*

INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #500 - THE MANDARIN RETURNS, A NEW DIRECTION BEGINS, AND TONY STARK IS IN PERIL.. COULD THIS BE THE EARLY GROUNDWORK FOR MARVEL'S UPCOMING "FEAR ITSELF" EVENT?

invincibleironman500

This one is going to be huge. I am so stoked to read the full thing this week, it's not even funny. As many of you already know, I've been a fan of Fraction and Larocca's run on INVINCIBLE IRON MAN since it began with issue #1. For almost three years, each and every month, Fraction and Larocca have delivered. Not only is each issue a quality read, but, how often do you see a creative team stick with a book that long AND keep it on a pretty consistent monthly schedule? It's pretty damn impressive. And, even if you've never been a fan of IRON MAN before, INVINCIBLE will MAKE you a fan. That's how freakin' good it is.

And, now, with issue #500 hitting this week, not only is it the perfect opportunity for those of you who haven't read the book before to jump on, but it's also the bold, new start of a storyline featuring the return of the classic Iron Man villain, THE MANDARIN. And, we've heard speculation that something pretty major is going to happen to Tony Stark in this issue... there's even been rumors of death, but we're not sure how true those could be. Personally, I don't think we're going to see Stark die, but I do think that the other rumors, about how this issue lays some of the foundations for this summer's big Marvel event story, FEAR ITSELF, are true. Considering that FRACTION is going to be writing FEAR ITSELF, it would only make sense, and even in recent issues of INVINCIBLE IRON MAN, we've seen some cryptic images of spidery-legged Martian WAR OF THE WORLDS looking crawler things.

This series is aces, no doubt, and this brand new story arc is going to be a freakin' great read. The Return of Mandarin, the msytery of Tony Stark's son, and the missing blocks of Stark's memory are all going to come together in #500 this week.

If you want to read one of the best monthly Marvel books on the stands, hop on with INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #500, and find out why Marvel's favorite futurist provides us with one of our favorite books month after month.

brightestday18
BRIGHTEST DAY continues to rage on this Wednesday, as the cosmic connection between the recently resurrected DCU characters that hae been it's focus, and the various Lantern Corps becomes evident. In #18, the Star Sapphires get involved in a big way, and Captain Boomerang begins to hunt down Deadman for a mysterious reason.

As we're nearing the conclusion of BRIGHTEST DAY, things are really getting good, as all the various resurrected characters are now starting to become tied together in a major way. We're already seeing resolution for some characters, as well as getting a good idea of what's to come for others.

Not Reading Brightest Day? Dude, you have got to at least check this out even if you're remotely interested in the DCU. Written by the man who's penning the main storyline of the DC Universe Online game, as well as the man behind BLACKEST NIGHT, Geoff Johns and partner-in-crime Peter Tomasi, are knocking it out of the park on BRIGHTEST DAY.

Brightest Day at it's core is essentially DC Universe: Rebirth. It's a building from the ground up kind of story that is basically setting all the various DC characters into place, and re-introducing a lot of classic and not-so-classic characters to new and old readers alike. If you're just getting into the realm of DC Comics, BRIGHTEST DAY is a fantastic in-continuity series to get into.

Wanna Get Caught Up? We've got both the hardcover which collects issues #0-#7, as well as ALL of the BRIGHTEST DAY back issues from #0-#17 in stock now. So, choose your preferred format, and hop on, and find out why BRIGHTEST DAY is one of our favorites.

SUPERIOR #4 - MARK MILLAR'S (writer of OLD MAN LOGAN, NEMESIS, KICK-ASS and more) CONTINUES HIS KILLER TAKE ON THE SUPERMAN ARCH-TYPE WITH SUPERIOR #4 THIS WEDNESDAY

superior4
With NEMESIS finished, we're so happy we've got SUPERIOR to scratch our MILLAR itch. In fact, between the two, I think I like SUPERIOR a lot more than I did NEMESIS. The story seems to have a little more heart in it. Don't get me wrong, I loved NEMESIS, and every depraved little thing about it, but there just seems to be a little more meat to SUPERIOR.

In last month's SUPERIOR #3, we saw SUPERIOR / Simon, begin to come into his own as an actual super-hero, and start trying to save people from life-threatening situations across America. We also met the Lois Lane-esque character, Madeline Knox, who is obseessed with finding out who Superior is. But, the big reveal was the story behind Ormon, and how he might not be the benevolent space monkey we were led to believe.

So, after reading that description of #3.. you're probably wondering just what the heck SUPERIOR is about if you're not already reading it.

SUPERIOR is the story of Simon Pooni, a teenage boy who develops Multiple Sclerosis, and is obsessed with a Superman-esque character known as SUPERIOR. His friends all think Superior is outdated and out of touch, but he still admires the character. And, then, one night, a monkey from outer space shows up, and tells him he's been chosen for the magic wish. His heart's desire. Without even blinking, Simon's crutches fall to the floor, and he's in the body of SUPERIOR himself. From there forward, we follow the story of a teenage comic fan who's stuck in the body of his favorite superhero, and has no idea what he's doing. One of my favorite parts so far was in the second issue where he and his friend are trying to figure out his powers, and he causes a forest fire accidentally with his heat vision.

If you're a fan of KICK-ASS, I think you'd really dig this one, as it has a very similar feel, and tone. It's got that same edgy Millar approach, but there's also some heart there, and you can definitely see Millar's genuine love of SUPERMAN stories apparent in this one. Take KICK-ASS and mix it with the Tom Hank's movie BIG, throw in a little bit of Superman and Shazam, and a liberal use of four-letter words, and you've got SUPERIOR.

Missed issues #1-#3? We've got copies in stock to catch you up.

GRIMM FAIRY TALES: MYTHS AND LEGENDS #1 - A NEW ONGOING SERIES THAT IS A MUST-READ FOR FANS OF "RETURN TO WONDERLAND", "NEVERLAND", and "FABLES"

gftmythsandlegends1
This series looks pretty kick-ass, and is definitely up to the same level of quality as some of Zenescope's other big hits like RETURN TO WONDERLAND, and the other WONDERLAND books in the trilogy.

In this new ongoing series, we see how classic fairy-tale characters, with a very dark twist, have crossed over into our realm, the normal realm. And, at the heart of it, is a young woman named Brittany, who just happens to have a whole lot in common with the legendary Red Riding Hood. Does she have what it takes to put down the hordes of demented fairy tale baddies that've crossed into our world?

WOLVERINE #5 - THE CONCLUSION TO JASON AARON'S FIRST ARC, AND THE ULTRA-VIOLENT "WOLVERINE GOES TO HELL" EPIC IS HERE!

wolverine5
Jason Aaron wraps up his first story arc on the new WOLVERINE ongoing series, and it looks to be a kick-ass conclusion to what's been one of the best series we've seen WOLVERINE have in a long time. The first arc has focused on, well, Wolverine in Hell. Seriously. His body has been made host to a demonic entity, and turned into a ruthless killing machine, hunting down all of Logan's loved ones, and systematically wiping them out. Meanwhile, his soul has been sent to Hell below, where the Legions of Hell, and nearly every bad guy Wolverine has killed, are waiting to break him. And, it's awesome. Seeing Wolverine in Hell, facing off against everyone from legions of Hand ninjas he's slaughtered to classic Wolverine bad guys like CYBER and SABRETOOTH, is a hoot. Aaron writes the new Wolverine ongoing with a gritty edge, while bringing in some new ideas. His run reminds me A LOT of the original Wolverine ongoing series, especially during moments of the Larry Hama run. And, Aaron even brings his own twist on the Ghost Rider mythology into the story as well.

I highly recommend this book to any of you guys who're Marvel fans, or Wolverine fans, and haven't given it a shot yet. I think you'll really dig the series. It's another one of my favorite monthly Marvel books, and is a perfect example of a good writer and good artist capturing the core of a character and showing us why we love that character and his supporting cast.

If you missed out on issues #1-#4, we've still got copies in stock for you to get caught up on issue #5 hitting this week. Folks, don't miss out on one of the best Wolverine books we've read in ages.

VERTIGO CRIME: RAT CATCHER Graphic Novel from ANDY DIGGLE (writer of THE LOSERS and more) hits this Wednesday telling the story of the mythical assassin who takes out mob snitches. Awesome stuff!

ratcatcherhc
We love the VERTIGO CRIME imprint here at Third Eye. I'm a huge crime noir nut, and these little slabs of hardboiled depravity have delivered almost each and every time. I'm especially excited about this Wednesday's newest VERTIGO CRIME book, THE RAT CATCHER, by Andy Diggle, writer of THE LOSERS.

The story focuses on the mythical mob assassin who does one of the most valuable jobs in the world of organized crime: he kills the snitches. Of course, the problem is that he doesn't actually exist. At least, according to U.S Marshals who oversee the Witness Protection Program.

But, that's a good problem, right? Until now, when a pile of dead bodies in a burning safe house outside El Paso are found. The Rat Catcher finally slips up, and a washed up FBI agent has one last chance to hunt him down before he disappears forever.

The art on this one looks fantastic, and it's Andy Diggle, so you know it's gonna be a good read.

MORNING GLORIES #6 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY, CONTINUING NICK SPENCER'S KICK-ASS ONGOING SERIES THAT MIXES BRIAN K. VAUGHN'S RUNAWAYS, a little bit of LOST, and a whole lotta COMIC GOODNESS.

morningglories6
We have been hooked in a serious way on Nick Spencer's MORNING GLORIES series. The series focuses on a prestigious prep school with a dark, dark secret. This is where parents send their kids in hopes of them coming out as power-players in the world, and groomed for Ivy League colleges. The last page of the first issue is such an incredible cliffhanger surprise, that I really don't want to spoiler it for any of you who haven't read the series. All I can say is that there's an extremely sinister secret to the school, and as the series has continued, we've seen more and more of the mystery unravel.

The real strength of MORNING GLORIES though is how well Spencer crafts his characters. His recent work on books like Shuddertown, Infinite Vacation (i know, i know, it's only 1 issue in), and more have really gotten us hooked in a big way. He's got an incredible knack for dialogue, and really knows how to put a story together in a way that keeps the reader punching on. Out of all the great books coming out these days, Morning Glories keeps me flipping the pages in a compulsive manner, and is one of the ones I have the hardest time putting down.

All I can say is that if you're not already reading this one, you need to get into it. It's fantastic. We've got issues #1-#5 in stock, and the trade paperback is due out soon collecting the first story arc.

DOCTOR WHO #1 DEBUTS THE LATEST ONGOING SERIES FEATURING THE 11th DOCTOR THIS WEDNESDAY

doctorwhovol21
I found a new appreciation for Dr. Who in the last few years when I rediscovered the show on Netflix. And, now, I'm pretty much hooked. So, any time something cool and Dr. Who hits the stands, I feel like it deserves a little bit of a shout-out.

Kicking off this Wednesday, the 11th Doctor Era begins in this new ongoing comic series from IDW that provide all new stories and adventures of the new Doctor. When the TARDIS becomes infected with holographic spam, the Doctor, Amy, and Rory are faced to land on an alien world that's been targeted for invasion by intergalactic mercenaries.

As always, the quality on IDW's DR. WHO comics is always top notch, and this one looks to continue that trend.

Check it out this Wednesday! And, for those of you who may have missed them, we do have the graphic novels, as well as the back issues of the previous IDW series featuring the other Doctors.

MATT FRACTION'S INCREDIBLE THOR RUN CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY IN THOR #619 - THE BEST THOR RUN WE'VE READ SINCE J. MICHAEL STRACZYNSKI'S!

thor619
If you are even remotely into THOR, then you need to be reading Fraction and Ferry's run on the book. It's freakin' fantastic. Fraction brings his unique, and innovative storytelling to the God of Thunder, and damn, it's like he's completely breathing new life into the entire World of Asgard.

Starting in issue #615, Fraction came on board the book with the very talented Pasqual Ferry, and ever since then, the book has been dynamite, folks. I'm serious. Fraction and Ferry bring the same kind of energy that Jack Kirby and Walt Simonson both brought to the book on their respective runs. There's a strong mixing of the science fiction meets Norse mythology that made Simonson and Kirby's runs on the character so great. Ferry's art brings everything to life with a very spacey-feel to it, which is perfect for the tone of story that Fraction is writing.

In last month's #618, we saw the return of Odin, and you know that's going to be bringing all sorts of trouble. Meanwhile, the World Eaters continue to tear their way through the various Realms, with their sights set upon Asgard.

The core of this first arc is on how it's unnatural for Asgard to be in the same solar system as Earth (or Midgard, if you prefer), and how the void of power in Asgard after it's destruction at the Sentry's hands in Siege, is drawing some major heat from extraterrestrial invaders.

But, there's so much more going on than that. Fraction is literally taking the world of Thor, and rebuilding it with a 21st Century modernist feel meets Silver Age sense of wonder.

It's really good stuff.

Wanna hop on? Start with #615, and catch up from there, we've got all the issues in stock here at Third Eye to get you caught up to this week's #619.

HOUSE OF MYSTERY VOL.5 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY CONTINUING BILL WILLINGHAM'S (writer of FABLES) FANTASTIC CREEPY STORY OF THE AFTERLIFE

houseofmystery5

We've been big fans of FABLES writer Bill Willingham's HOUSE OF MYSTERY series. He's done a fantastic job of bringing a creepy, dark fantasy world to life, and breathing new life into the concept of the HOUSE OF MYSTERY.

Sitting at the crossroads of reality, all who find the House of Mystery are welcome to enter, but not all who enter may leave. That sums up the series very well. Basically, the House of Mystery is essentially a Purgatory for lost souls. And, along with the House of Secrets, Cain and Abel from Neil Gaiman's SANDMAN serve as the caretakers of the HOUSE OF MYSTERY.

In Willingham's HOUSE OF MYSTERY, you start off in the first book following the story of five key characters: a poet, a pirate, a bartender, a drama queen, and a newcomer by the name of Fig. Fig is kind of the heroine of the tale, and in comparison to the others that're trapped there, her background is pretty normal. From there, we're taken through a journey that mixes horror anthology with horror narrative, as the over-arching story of HOUSE OF MYSTERY keeps you reading, and the background stories of the various lost souls that drift in, and sometimes out, keeps things exciting.

I highly recommend the series, and if you're not reading it already, you should check out the first volume. It's fantastic. A great mix of fantasy and horror, the ordinary and the extraordinary, and the luxurious and the grotesque.

For those of you who're already hooked, we'll see you this week for volume 5. :)

GORE #1 - NIGHTMARISH VERSIONS OF BELOVED FAIRY TALE CHARACTERS INVADE OUR WORLD

gore1
Okay, it's just a little weird that we've got TWO books this week that share this similar concept, but hot damn, they both look great, and both look to bring their own unique twist to the subject matter.

In GORE, from European comics studios GG Studios (who're known for their AMAZING artwork and production values), we're shown a story where demons invade the Carnival at Venice. Demons that resemble dark, twisted versions of classic fairy-tale chacaters we all know and love.

It's up to a newly recruited Demon Hunter named Gabriel to force the demoness Cinderella, her monsterous companion The Little Mermaid, and countless others back through the portal before our world is completely destroyed by these creatures.

I've seen some preview pages, and it looks pretty kickass. If you dug LEGENDS: THE ENCHANTED, or GRIMM FAIRY TALES, you should give this one a look.

SCARLET #4 - BENDIS AND MALEEV'S GRITTY POLITICALLY-CHARGED CRIME NOIR THRILLER CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY

scarlet4
Bendis and Maleev are one of my favorite creative teams. These two, when they work together, put out some of the best damn comic book goodness you'll find. It was their run on DAREDEVIL that really hooked me on the character, and in my opinion, I still think their Daredevil run is even better than the Frank Miller stuff (which I do still hold in high regard).

But, yeah, Bendis's writing style and Maleev's art just mixes perfectly. Bendis is at his strongest when he's writing crime noir-charged stories, and Maleev's art is perfect for that.

With SCARLET, we're given the story of a young woman who has been completely screwed by the system for years, and years, up until the point where she decides to take action. See, Scarlet's boyfriends were murdered by corrupt city police, and now, she's taking revenge against them. This is a simple concept, but it's the pairing of Bendis and Maleev that make it into something so much more interesting than what it sounds. Bendis's snappy dialogue, and the character's knack for breaking the fourth wall to talk directly to the reader, makes the book increasingly more interesting. And, Bendis is planning on making us active participants in the story, and we're really intrigued to see how he plans to do that beyond the narrative between Scarlet and the reader.

Folks, this is comic book goodness at it's finest. And, if you're a fan of just plain good comics, especially ones like INCOGNITO, CRIMINAL, 100 BULLETS, or Bendis and Maleev's past works on books like SPIDER-WOMAN and DAREDEVIL, then we highly recommend getting into this book.

We've got issues #1-#3 in stock to get you caught up.

ANOTHER SLAB OF DEADPOOL AWESOMENESS THIS WEDNESDAY WITH DEADPOOL CLASSIC VOL. 4 TRADE PAPERBACK

deadpoolclassic4
I know over the last year or so we saw a little bit of a Deadpool overload, but that doesn't change the fact that the original late '90s Deadpool series by Joe Kelly and Ed McGuinness is some of the best damn comic book made. These big thick trades that collect nice slabs of that classic run have been a welcome addition to our shelves, and folks, if you like Deadpool, and you like funny Deadpool, you need to read this stuff.

Seriously, this was the best run on the character I think I've ever seen, and this was where they really defined who he was, and just how crazy and wacky he could be. Plus, the Great Lake's Avengers, and a romantic involvement with Death herself? How can you go wrong?

Seriously though, if you haven't read any of the Joe Kelly and Ed McGuiness DEADPOOL stuff, you need to check it out. It's fantastic. We always keep all the trades in stock, and for those of you who're already caught up, we know we'll be seeing you this week for Volume 4.

MORNING GLORIES and INFINITE VACATION writer NICK SPENCER starts his run on SUPERGIRL this Wednesday with SUPERGIRL #60

supergirl60

Okay, you might be skeptical, but Supergirl is about to become a must-read title, folks. Why's that? 'Cause NICK SPENCER, writer of the hit Image series MORNING GLORIES, and one of our favorite new books INFINITE VACATION, is taking over as the writer of the title with this week's issue #60.

As most of you know, Spencer has a knack for knocking it out of the park with killer writing, and a strong sense of characterization and sharp dialogue. And it looks like he's bringing his uniquely dark sense of storytelling to the Girl of Steel.

In this new storyline, someone is trying to kill the young heroes of the DC Universe, and Supergirl needs to figure out who this villain is, and how to stop him, as the word of a serial killer of young heroes spreads throughout the superhero community like wildfire.

This one looks like it's going to serve up some awesome opportunities for some great guest-star moments, with characters like Damian Wayne, Blue Beetle, and Batgirl mentioned as showing up in the arc.

And, personally, from what I've seen of the preview pages, it looks kick-ass.

MEMOIR #1 - A NEW LIMITED SERIES FROM IMAGE COMICS FEATURING A TOWN WHO WAKES UP ONE DAY, AND THEIR MEMORIES HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY ERASED... EXCEPT FOR ONE MAN!

memoir1

Whenever Image does something new, and it sounds interesting, we feel like we have to take note. Why? 'Cause they've been putting out some of the best, most unconventional comics we're reading these days, and the level of quality on their books ALWAYS seems to deliver.

This week, with MEMOIR, we're seeing the launch of a new sci-fi thriller mini-series that sounds pretty rad. Set in the town of Lowesville, a small Midwestern place that's peaceful and quaint, this story shows us a town that one morning wakes up with no idea of who they are, where they are, or what's happened. An entire town of people who all of the sudden lose their memories of everything, and everyone.

And, at the heart of it, one man, remembers EVERYTHING, and must embark on a quest to figure out just what the hell is going on.

DEADPOOL MAX #4 - DAVID LAPHAM, the writer of CROSSED: FAMILY VALUES brings his twisted sensibilities to everyone's favorite Merc With A Mouth... and we guarantee it's the most over-the-top and outrageous Deadpool you'll ever read.

deadpoolmax4
David Lapham has given us the freshest, and most ridiculous Deadpool comic since the ongoing series relaunched. Seriously, in a sea of Deadpool, DEADPOOLMAX really stands out as a fun read. It's violent, it's funny, it's offensive, and all of these things mean one thing: it's Deadpool.

And, Kyle Baker's artwork brings a new level of life to the character, and the absurd situations that he's put through in the no-holds-barred world of Marvel's MAX imprint. Much like PUNISHER MAX, this book exists outside of the normal Marvel continuity, and shows us a more NC-17 look at Deadpool.

And, this Wednesday, Deadpool comes head to head with an old buddy. The government super-agent CABLE.

Click here for a preview of DEADPOOLMAX #4

Missed 1-3? We've got 'em in stock to catch you up.

BACK IN STOCK THIS WEDNESDAY: 27 #1 - DON'T MISS YOUR SECOND CHANCE TO JUMP ONTO ONE OF THE HOTTEST IMAGE TITLES OF 2011!

271b
Back in stock this Wednesday, we've got the first issue of the hit new series 27. And, folks, jump on this one quick, 'cause these second printings have already gone out of stock at the distributor level, so it looks like this'll be going to a third print.

We'll be getting a big stack of 27 #1s back in so you can get caught up to #2 which came out a couple weeks ago. The series is fantastic so far, and we're really impressed with the direction it's heading.

The concept is pretty straight-forward: The mythical 27 Club, which consists of various rock stars who all died at the age of 27 (ranging from Hendrix and Cobain to Joplin and Morrison, plus others) has decided it's time to claim another member: a young guitarist who just after turning 27 came down with a neurological disorder which has made it impossible for him to play guitar. In exchange for his playing ability to return, he makes some faustian deals with a mad scientist, and well, things get crazy from there. We don't want to say too much, and ruin the surprise.

We've still got a limited amount of #2s in stock now, so make sure you snag a copy of that when you grab #1, as #2 has also already gone to a second print.

THE GOON VOL.10 DEATH'S GREEDY COMEUPPANCE TP - A new GOON trade calls for CELEBRATION!

thegoonvol10

We're huge on Eric Powell's incredible pulpy masterpiece THE GOON, and whenever a new trade paperback of the series releases, we're always pumped about it.

And, so, this Wednesday marks the release of the 10th volume of the GOON, and we couldn't be more stoked.

Never read THE GOON? The series is fantastic, it really is a multilayered pulp masterpiece that mixes so many different comic genres effortlessly into one killer read.

The series has a strong paranormal slant that mixes Depression-era crime noir and pulp fiction with over-the-top horror movie madness, and it all comes out as one thing, and one thing only: THE GOON. It focuses on the character of the Goon, who grew up as part of the circus, and working for a mob boss who he ends up finding out isn't what he says he is... and from there, the GOON's story begins.

There's an incredible amount of pure comic joy in this series, and you can tell that Powell has a great time making the book. Just imagine a mix of old school E.C horror comics, Mad Magazine, crime noir, circus freakshows, and tons of B-Movie monsters.. and that's what you get with the Goon.

Start with volume 0, and work your way up from there. The series is outstanding, and we think you'll love it.

WOLVERINE AND JUBILEE #1 - IN THE AFTERMATH OF CURSE OF THE MUTANTS, JUBILEE MUST DEAL WITH HER NEW AFFLICTION

wolverinejubilee1
The Curse of the Mutants may have concluded, but the ramifications of the Vampire war that was waged on the X-Men are still being dealt with. In this 4-part limited series by Kathryn Immonen, and the amazingly talented artist Phil Noto (seriously look at the preview pages for this one, they look great), we get to see how Jubilee adapts to normal life, now that she, well, is a vampire.

And, it's up to Wolverine to keep her from falling in with a coven of female vampires who offer Jubilee the perfect place to belong.

NANCY IN HELL TRADE PAPERBACK HITS THIS WEDNESDAY - CHAINSAW-WIELDING, VODKA-CHUGGING CHEERLEADER MADNESS!

nancyinhelltpb
One of our favorite sleeper hits of the summer was the Image Comics mini-series NANCY IN HELL, which featured the amazing artwork of JUAN JOSE RYP, the guy who's responsible for books like BLACK SUMMER, NO HERO, and currently, WOLVERINE THE BEST THERE IS.

We love the Geoff Darrow-esque hyper-detailed, kinetic art style of Ryp, and Nancy in Hell is a perfect example of his skills in action. The series also happens to be an absolute blast.

See, Nancy wasn't such a nice girl during her stay on Earth, and she's ended up in Hell because of it. Now, the former cheerleader is wielding a chainsaw, wandering the tormented landscapes filled with tortured souls, and broken-hearted Devils, and hacking and slashing everything into little bitty pieces.

Violent, funny, this book rocked. Check it out in trade this week here at Third Eye!

FROM THE CREATORS OF ROBOT13, KING! #1 AND #2 HAVE ARRIVED - A MUST FOR FANS OF "THE GOON", "HELLBOY" AND MORE! AN EX-LUCHA LIBRA WRESTLER TURNED MONSTER-FIGHTING ELVIS IMPERSONATOR.. WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE?

king2

Last year's ROBOT13 was a smash hit, and took a lot of us by surprise. The Mike Mignola-influenced artwork, and clever writing on the book made a big splash as the adventures of a disembodied skull in a deep sea diver's suit fighting mythological monsters captured our imaginations in a big way.

Now, the creators behind ROBOT13 have kicked out the jams again with their new series KING! And, this week, we've got not only issue #1, but #2 as well of KING! making a splash here at Third Eye.

Just like R13, KING! is a comic that is not distributed via our traditional distributors, and this means that it's a little trickier to find than most books. And, this also explains why you get not just 1 issue, but 2 issues of KING! awesomeness from us this Wednesday.

What's the book about? Folks, I read both of the issues this weekend, and it's awesome. An ex-Mexican Wrestler Lucha Libre star turned monster-hunting, zombie-smashing, junk food-eating Elvis-quoting badass. Really, there's not much more that need be said than that.

If you're a fan of quirky books like THE GOON, CHEW, or HELLBOY, you need to give KING! a shot.

For those of you who're interested in rediscovering R13, we'll also have more copies of 1-3 of ROBOT13 in stock this Wednesday.

THIRD EYE STAFF PICKS
Steve - GREEN LANTERN EMERALD WARRIORS #6- Damn, this book just got really good, really fast. Issue #6 was a kick-ass read from start to finish, and I am so stoked about the upcoming Red Lanterns book that's due out this year.

Trish - INFINITE VACATION #1 - Totally awesome read. Nick Spencer is becoming one of my favorite new writers between this, Morning Glories, and Forgetless, he's won me over every time.

TORMA - HEROES FOR HIRE #2 - I think this might be the best take on the Heroes for Hire.. ever. The book reads really good and you know I love Abnett and Lanning cause of their work on stuff like THANOS IMPERATIVE. Awesome read.
